CAMS is seeking a results-driven Operations Manager to oversee daily operations at the Bethlehem Energy Center, a 875 MW gas fired combined cycle plant located in Glenmont, New York. This facility features three GE 7FA.04 gas turbines, and one D-11 steam turbine. The facility is interconnected to National Grid and sells power into the NYISO Market.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager leads a team of 17 skilled professionals and is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a passion for continuous improvement to maximize plant performance and availability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of plant operations, ensuring safety, reliability, environmental compliance, and financial performance.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop operations personnel; foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager on scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to optimize plant availability.
- Monitor plant performance metrics and adjust operational strategies as needed to achieve optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance, safety, and operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with all EH&S regulations and NERC standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation including operations logs, performance reports, and maintenance records.
- Lead emergency response efforts and ensure 24/7 operational readiness.
- Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain high-quality service and cost control.
- Support budget development and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal discipline.
- Oversee compliance with power purchase agreements and market obligations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or senior leadership.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance, with in-depth knowledge of gas and steam turbine technologies.
- Proven leadership experience managing operational teams in a power generation environment.
- Strong understanding of EH&S standards, NERC compliance, and industry best practices.
- Skilled in using plant monitoring software, Microsoft Office Suite, and reporting tools.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience in project management, capital improvements, and change management.
- Knowledge of HR principles and employee relations best practices.
