To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.com Job Description What you'll be doing CIBC Capital Markets Sustainable Finance group provides fixed income as well as corporate finance advisory services to a broad range of public and private sector clients in Canada, the United States and Europe. CIBC’s Sustainable Finance Group (“SF”) is dedicated to advising clients in connection with the impact of sustainability on the cost of capital as well as integrating sustainability concepts into the capital structure. The group is also integral at providing ‘thought leadership’ both internally and externally, with high visibility at a senior executive level within CIBC Capital Markets. This a unique opportunity to join a fast growing team with insights into how environmental, social and governance factors impact clients in a dynamic environment. The Analyst on the SF team will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical, research and presentation preparation support to all the professionals within SF. Typically, the Analyst is assigned to a variety of transactions related to fixed income advisory and execution projects such as green, social, sustainable, and sustainability-linked financial products. As part of the Sustainable Finance team, you will gain exposure to working with individuals from various groups across the firm globally in CIBC Capital Markets and the broader CIBC enterprise. A team approach to executing coverage, advisory and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on the job training. How you'll succeed Reviewing Client Reports and Business Development - Review non-financial disclosures (sustainability reports) from our corporate clients and participate in business development and execution Analysis and Collaboration - Assist with analysis to support the development and evolution of CIBC Capital Markets Sustainable Finance strategy. Liaise and ensure connection between all groups within Capital Markets- including Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Debt Capital Markets, Sales & Trading, and also at the enterprise level, including ESG Enterprise, risk management, treasury and investor relations Origination and Due Diligence - Work with the corporate origination teams to identify opportunities for collaboration and origination of products relevant for our clients. Assist in company due diligence and analyze quantitative data related to sustainable finance including maintaining databases of sustainable capital markets transactions Development of pitch books - Develop pitch books and client-related materials related to sustainable finance products and ESG themes Integrate Sustainability in Capital Markets - Support enhancing the governance, internal procedures, and reporting associated with Capital Markets contribution towards the Bank’s Sustainable Finance mobilization goal and Sustainability Issuance framework. Liaison with CIBC Enterprise ESG and Enterprise Environmental Risk Management team to evolve the measurement systems associated with our Net Zero Commitments and Sustainable Finance mobilization goal Who you are You are passionate about ESG/sustainability. This is a fast growing field, though nascent. The concepts of sustainability continue to evolve and a passion to understand and drive sustainability will be a key enabler You're an effective communicator. Excellent presentation skills evidenced by an ability to be a focused, confident and a persuasive presenter. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues. Good relationship building capabilities for internal and external audiences is essential as this role and the SF group tends to be one of ‘connecting the dots’ within not only the SBU, but the firm You embrace and advocate for change. You must be comfortable starting with little in some instances. You must be creative and bring your experience from other roles to create new materials for our business partners and clients You’re goal oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping solve and execute on the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients You can demonstrate experience in corporate finance/investment banking/private equity experience combined with completion of a Sustainability courses, CA or CFA, is preferred You possess strong technical skills. As it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (Bloomberg) and applicable software. You use your detail-orientation to ensure analysis and advice is accurate and thorough You're motivated by collective success. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners.
