Hiring Salary Range : $ 102,000.00 - 134,000.00

Job Summary
 
The Lead, Locomotive Fleet is responsible for monitoring and creating the overall locomotive fleet strategy based on data analysis and performance. The role is accountable for designing planned maintenance actions that will address major issues during unscheduled or scheduled events. The incumbent oversees the overall fleet health including systems and components. The position works close with Maintenance Analysts, Shops and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to improve fleet performance.
 
Main Responsibilities
 
Fleet Performance Monitoring
 
• Monitor overall fleet health through data analysis
 
• Identify top failures and components within the fleet
 
• Define the corrective actions applicable to improve fleet performance by working with OEMs and other vendors
 
• Perform cost analysis to maintain all corrective actions within operational budget
 
• Perform weekly reports to communicate overall fleet performance
 
• Analyze main drivers that alerted as part of the data analysis and define corrective action plans for alert items
 
• Monitor bad performer locomotives and ensure specific work scopes are created to improve overall fleet health
 
• Act as the main mechanical technical Subject Expert Matter (SME) for the assigned fleet
 
• Own overall fleet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and facilitate decision making process for units while supporting other areas of Mechanical such as Operations and Planning  
 
Continuous Fleet Performance Improvement
 
• Lead monthly reliability control board (RCB) for identified specific fleet and present action plans to Executives as well
as Mechanical Leaders
 
• Resolve Return on Investment (ROI) for all proposed projects during RCB and present to Executives and Finance
 
• Build business plans and drive these through Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) process
 
• Develop work scopes to be executed as part of the capital plan in conjunction with OEMs and suppliers to identify the best solution to improve locomotive health
 
• Work with Planning to prioritize fleet improvement projects and monitor execution with shops
 
• Analyze component usage and define improvement strategy for working with different vendors and upgrades
 
• Develop communication rhythm with OEMs and vendors
 
• Travel across the CN network in both Canada and the United States (U.S.) as required to perform site audits and ensure the effectiveness of work scopes
 
• Act as the point person for Locomotive during multifunctional crisis response or critical incident redress
 
Working Conditions
 
The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments in various weather conditions with an irregular workweek, including shifts and weekends. The role requires minimal travel (25%) withing Canada and the United States (U.S.).
 
Requirements
 
Experience
 
Mechanical Management
 
 • Minimum 5 years experience in a Mechanical Management position
 
• Minimum 2 years of railway operations experience and working with heavy rail equipment
 
Education/Certification/Designation
 
• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent mechanical and locomotive experience
 
• Valid Driver’s License
 
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt*

Technical Skills/Knowledge
 
• Thorough knowledge of Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) and General Electric (GE) locomotive parts and repair procedures
 
• Knowledge of CN, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Transport Canada (TC) rules and regulations pertaining to the safe operation of locomotives
 
• Knowledge of Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
 
• Strong knowledge of computer systems, both mainframe and PC
 
• Extensive knowledge of locomotive trucks and their components
 
• Demonstrable knowledge on locomotive air brake, electrical and mechanical systems
 
• Fluently Bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)*
