Job Description
As a Diesel Engine Mechanic with Canadian National Railway, you will be responsible for performing inspections, major and minor repairs, overhauls, and servicing on all types of locomotives.

This is a critical position that requires strong technical skills and attention to detail. You will work on various equipment and structures designed to support freight distribution across North America.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, service, and maintain locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.
- Perform oil changes, repairs, replacements, cleaning, and adjustments to parts.
- Operate electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment, and other vehicle repair tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
- Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, recording details on prescribed forms according to established procedures.
- Meet medical fitness for duty requirements and use measuring devices and understand visual displays.
Requirements
- A valid CDL for the class and type of equipment operated.
- Ability to certify company equipment in accordance with state standards.
- Welding skills and basic computer skills.
- Demonstrate good verbal, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

Training
Newly hired Diesel Engine Mechanics participate in several weeks of training, including classroom instruction and field training. The classroom training takes place at the CN Campus in Homewood, IL, guiding new employees through critical safety skills required for railroad work.
