Job Summary
The Inventory Maintainer is responsible for administering multi-step paper material transactions through pick lists. The role coordinates in and outbound material logistics as well as completes inventory optimization and organization within the warehouse.
Working Conditions
- The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday
- The role requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The role requires the ability to operate forklift trucks
- Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must have the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently in a self-driven, organized manner, and be able to multi-task

Major Responsibilities
- Administer multi-step paper material transactions within the relevant material systems, prioritize, print and assign pick lists
- Create purchase requisitions for stock and non-stock materials
- Document and tag all returned and repairable materials
- Maintain and reconcile inventory against all material movements (e.g., request, order, pick, count, pack, receive, inspect, store, return, issue and others) and validate reconciliation reports
- Handle shipping and processing of cores, repair and return items and warranty items per Return Material Authorization (RMA) and core pool requirements
- Coordinate in and outbound material logistics, including preparing, tracing and expediting
- Organize the physical warehouse (e.g., organizing bin locations and housekeeping)
- Optimize inventory levels and monitor inventory records for plant and storage locations
- Handle materials and supply distribution (e.g., request, order, pick, count, pack, receive, inspect, store, return, issue materials) from and within the warehouse
- Perform the physical movement of materials (e.g., unload and load, deliver to and stage material in appropriate locations)
Requirements
- Must be a qualified Material Handler or be able to qualify as a Material Handler
- Must be in possession of valid forklift operator’s card or pass a forklift operation test within the qualification period
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License
- Must pass a proficiency test related to key computer systems including Systems Applications and Products (SAP), Service Reliability Systems (SRS) and basic desktop applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Intranet
- Must be aware of the rules and regulations that relate to the transportation and handling of dangerous goods and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and pass a proficiency test
- Must have general knowledge of material classifications
- Must comply with mechanical rules and policies
- Must have good knowledge and show strength in material management processes and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to converse in English and French

This position is a unionized position, as such pay and benefits are governed by the applicable Collective Agreement.
Paid Training:
Newly hired Inventory Maintainers will take part in paid training which includes classroom instructions and field training during their first months of service. The training guides the new Inventory Maintainer through the critical safety skills required to work on the railroad.
Once the classroom training is complete, the Inventory Maintainer will complete on the job training to enhance their knowledge and skills. Successful completion of the training course is essential to maintain employment as an Inventory Maintainer. An Inventory Maintainers application may be rescinded in the event that they do not display the aptitude or desire to learn within the first 120 days of their employment.
