Main Responsibilities
Tax Portfolio Management
Oversee management of the tax portfolio (e.g., Income Tax, Cash and Tax Expense, Deferred Income Taxes, Sales and Use Tax, Withholding Taxes)
Handle the United States (U.S.) income and indirect tax audits
Manage the current year forecast of U.S. Cash Taxes and ETR
Analyze tax provision (current and deferred) true-ups and explain variances
Compliance and Risk Management
Coordinate the overall U.S. Income Tax compliance (e.g., Filing of Tax Returns) and Accounting for Income Taxes
Ascertain U.S. tax risk and maintain adequate U.S. tax reserves
Manage the quarterly UTP
Ensure overall Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance regarding U.S. income taxes
Assist in settling audits within tax reserves and completing indirect tax audits
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Review MD&A and quarterly results as requested
Ensure DIT true ups are minimized
Ensure no material misstatements occur in the Financial Statements
Oversee timely preparation of the U.S. tax forecast for the 5 Year Plan
Tax Planning and Strategy
Review and analyze changes in tax laws, including impacts to ETR and cash taxes
Support M&A activity and lead the tax integration section
Oversee indirect tax projects and assist on Transfer Pricing projects from a U.S. tax perspective
Assist on larger special projects such as M&A and act as tax lead on smaller ones
Supervise experienced professionals (e.g., Income, Indirect Tax)
Provide leadership to team members with clear and expected deliverables
Coordinate cross-functional work and collaboration between departments
Leverage technology to improve processes and information quality
Engage and challenge colleagues on projects and act as a mentor in the Tax department
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is eligible to participate in CNs hybrid working policy. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.
Requirements
Experience
Accounting
Minimum 10 years in a Big 4 accounting firm with large corporate industry experience
o Experience dealing with complex tax issues and transactions
o Experience in tax accounting and understanding timing differences and completing quarterly tax provision deliverables in a timely manner
- Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education / Certification / Designation
Bachelors Degree in Accounting
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
Masters Degree in Taxation or equivalent
