Location : Chickasha and Cowan Campuses

Reports To : Practical Nursing / Surg Tech Director

FLSA Status : 12 Month / Exempt

SUMMARY

The Surgical Technology Director is responsible for all aspects of the Surgical Technology program and its required clinical experiences students are enrolled in; the design, delivery, and evaluation of curriculum for the program in a safe and appropriate instructional space; and responsible for assisting students in finding positive related placement. Responsible for the supervision and evaluation of program staff.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Possess a minimum of an Associate Degree; and
  • Have documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning;
  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency;
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA);
  • Have a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Preference may be given for a standard teaching certification with vocational certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all aspects of the program, including but not limited to :
  • Administration, organization, supervision of the program; and
  • Continuous quality review and improvement of the program;
  • Academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate program budget
  • Selection and evaluation of clinical facilities.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate long range plans regarding program development
  • Coordinate Clinical Education
  • Provide administration, organization, and supervision of student clinical experience
  • Coordinate the assignments of students to clinical sites
  • Record keeping and making of reports as requested by both local and national agencies
  • Meet and instruct students providing performance based individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of instructional techniques.
  • Instruct students in the use, care, and safe operation of machinery and equipment and the care of furniture, material, and supplies.
  • Instruct students in the importance and significance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits in obtaining and retaining employment.
  • Ensure all students take and pass certification tests for which they qualify.
  • Sponsor or co-sponsor a chapter of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), the student organization for students in health occupation training.
  • Evaluate each student's performance based on knowledge, skills, and attitudes learned in the areas being taught; maintain competency records, progress reports, attendance reports, and employment references for students.
  • Work Cooperatively with the Academic Center and Instructional Coaches to provide educational services for students who need additional educational support.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom, shop room, storage room, and office space to include safe working conditions and appropriate safety precautions per industry regulations.
  • Use proper purchasing procedures and maintain required inventory records on all equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Assist in placing all students available for employment or additional educational experiences upon completion of the program.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in the staff developments, in-service education activities, and selected professional growth activities as provided by the district and within your career and technical field.
  • Work cooperatively with other instructors, administration, and staff.
  • Participate in the evaluation process with the assigned administrator
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing the rules and regulations of the Board of Education.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervise and manage program staff. Responsibilities include departmental recruitment, selection, hiring, orientation, assignment of duties, performance appraisal, and professional development.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment is in a classroom environment that regularly requires employee to sit, stand and / or walk for extended periods of time. Requires reliable, dependable and punctual attendance. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
