What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sailing Instructor for Community Sailing Program position at Canal Dock Boathouse?
Sail Haven is a nonprofit community sailing program dedicated to sharing the joy of small boat sailing on New Haven's vibrant harbor. Our members range from complete beginners to seasoned sailors, but we all share a passion for being out on the water under sail.
We have an active social community that welcomes newcomers into the sailing lifestyle. Members enjoy gatherings on land and water as we operate as an all-volunteer organization. With reasonable membership dues, we aim to make sailing accessible for everyone.
Must haves:
- CT Safe Boating Certificate
- US Sailing Small Craft Instructor Level 1 Certification (reimbursement available upon successful completion available)
- First Aid and CPR Certifications
- Chase boat operation proficiency
Responsibilities include preparation and execution of daily lesson plans for classroom, on-the-water instruction following curriculum guidelines set by the Program Manager, and US Sailing, boat safety inspections, student evaluations, and daily program safety.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills to provide students and members with positive feedback to reinforce safe sailing procedures, hands-on instruction, and sailing fun.
Part Time or Full Time. May - September hours available.
Sail Haven is looking for Sailing Instructor interested in working any of the following hours in the 2024 Season:
May 28, 2024 – September 28, 2024
Mondays – Thursdays 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM, Saturdays 8:30 PM -12:30 PM
Additional work available through Schooner Camp junior lessons and/or Dock Master for the Sail Haven Open Sailing Program.
