Job Summary
The Automation Controls Technician A will primarily operate and maintain the Port’s Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB’s) and associated equipment. The position will report directly to the Facilities Automation Management.
Essential Functions
- Safely operate a CPA-owned Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) with training as assigned and required
- Attend mandatory regularly scheduled operation and maintenance training
- Responds to customer requests and provides resolution in a timely and professional manner
- Performs general maintenance on all PBB’s including and not limited to: Painting (e.g., preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints and encapsulated coatings), cleaning outside and inside the PBB, greasing, adjusting, troubleshooting operations on site, and all tasks needed to properly maintain a Safe working PBB
- Works in conjunction with Automation Controls Technician B as needed and/or assigned
- Completes work orders and forms to ensure all documents regarding repairs/maintenance are complete
- Applies methods, practices, and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, operation, and troubleshooting
- Safely operates Port vehicles and/or construction equipment, i.e., forklifts, manlifts, etc., in all weather conditions
- Maintains neat and tidy work areas
- Performs all other maintenance duties as assigned
- During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be eager to work in all aspects of operating and maintaining a PBB
- Must have a superior record of attendance
- Must be a team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment, be flexible, and a self-starter
- Must be able to effectively communicate and to be trained efficiently
- Must possess working knowledge using various types of hand and power tools and to use them safely
- Must possess basic computer skills and be able to perform basic computer skills
- Knowledge of general maintenance procedures and skills are needed
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics as they relate to buildings and utilities services systems, is a plus
Licenses / Certification Required:
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
- Able to secure a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
Physical Requirement:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
- Must be able to perform tasks involving the intermittent performance of physically demanding work typically involving some combination of reaching, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching and that may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials between 20-50 pounds
- This is a safety sensitive position
- Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to inspect premises, including some ability to bend, stoop, and walk in confined areas
- Physical agility required for climbing ladders, stairways, and narrow walkways
- Tasks are performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather
- Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents
- High noise environment
- Maritime environment, must be comfortable working near docks, piers, and waterways
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays
- Must be able to safely operate equipment such as boom trucks, genie booms, scissor lifts and forklifts up to heights of no more than 85 feet above ground level.
- Must be able to be trained and operate PBB’s
Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying temperatures and weather conditions
- Must be able to use respirators for painting where fumes are a safety concern
