Job Summary
The Electronic Security Support Specialist I, is a hands-on role that requires applying excellent technical skills to deploy and maintain electronic security systems as a component of the safety and security strategy of the port as well as the business operations.
The candidate will be responsible for maintaining 1500 security devices in a critical infrastructure environment.
The candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of video surveillance, alarms, access control, and other electronic security equipment while conforming to all safety protocols and other relevant codes.
Essential Functions
- Function as individual contributor providing specialty support on all physical security electronic systems field components to maintain an elevated level of operability and readiness.
- Setup and deploy a wide range of electronic security devices including IP based cameras, audio monitoring equipment, signaling and notification devices, control panels, electrified door hardware, programmable logic controllers and other electronic sensors, among others.
- Performs scheduled, routine preventive maintenance on a variety of electronic security systems by inspecting, adjusting, cleaning, and calibrating equipment to ensure it is in satisfactory working order.
- Analyses and prioritizes repair requirements based on customer operational and/or security requirements.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical support issues, communicate status, and follow through to completion.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all IT Equipment including electronic security devices, tools, computers, and computer peripherals.
- Responds to assigned user requests for service in a prompt, friendly, and customer service-oriented manner.
- Maintain a reporting log of all service activities and assigned project tasks.
- Monitor, report, and respond accordingly to all delegated systems alerts.
- Follow procedures to appropriately escalate compounded service requests involving other internal IT Services resources, resources from other port departments, resources from partnering external agencies, or vendors.
- Provide basic (Level 1) support, troubleshooting and problem solving on local area network (LAN) and on a wide area network (WAN) using standard network troubleshooting techniques and tools.
- Install firmware upgrades and application on field devices as assigned.
- Apply cybersecurity controls on field devices as assigned.
- Provide project support to the IT Services Physical Security System senior staff as appropriate.
- Manage individual project tasks as assigned including timelines, status updates, milestones, and completion of objectives.
- Write basic knowledge base documentation on procedures, troubleshooting steps and solutions to assigned service and support cases.
- Provide rotating, on-call services for after-hours and weekend coverage.
- Stay current on all affiliate technologies required for end user support issues.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. This may include performance of duties not directly indicated in the job description.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- During emergency conditions, all Canaveral Port Authority employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience in low voltage systems, including but not limited to IP based video surveillance, intrusion detection systems, access control, structured cabling.
- High school diploma or equivalent, additional technical certifications or training preferred.
- Experience installing and servicing electrified door hardware.
- Experience working in a networking environment.
- Familiarity with BICSI, TIA , NEC Standards.
- Experience working in Microsoft Cloud environments, working with Windows, Microsoft Office productivity software, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams.
- CompTIA Security or higher, or ability to achieve certification within 90 days.

Licenses / Certification Required:
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Able to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Physical Requirement
- Climb ladders that extend up to 24 ft. in height.
- Operate man-lifts that extend up to 80-100’
- May involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.
- May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight up to 75 pounds.
- Comfortable working outdoors including adverse weather conditions.
- Precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
Environmental Requirements
- A mix of a field service environment and an office environment involving traveling to and from buildings and outdoor areas within the campus.
- Degree of flexibility likely to require evening/weekend work and participation in an on-call rotation.
