Job Summary
The Cancer Center of South Florida is looking for a Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) position who is compassionate, caring and experienced in developing/implementing the plan of care for each patient, making recommendations for patient interventions, and collaborating with other health care providers to deliver care and document outcomes. The successful RN promote safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays.
Summary of Job:
- Patient teaching & symptom management.
- Monitoring patients for anticipated chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery, and/or radiation-associated toxicities and screening for unanticipated toxicities.
- Coordinates (with assistance from Provider(s)) VNA, Hospice, home infusion, laboratory services and monitoring.
- Coordinates and performs blood draws and flushes central lines (i.e. PAC’s, Hickman’s & PICC’s), and starts peripheral IV’s.
- Safely administers chemotherapy/immunotherapy according to the Oncology
- Nursing Society’s (ONS) recommendations and state regulations.
- Monitors & evaluates responses to treatment.
- Chemotherapy/immunotherapy teaching to include self-administration of injections and symptom management.
- Performs therapeutic phlebotomy as ordered by the provider.
- Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately and assists in triage of emergencies to NP/PA or MD as appropriate
- Prescription questions and refills.
- Coordinates blood product transfusions.
- Coordinates patient education and develops needed education materials.
- Assesses for high-risk bereavement families.
- Assesses psychosocial needs of patients and families; communicates with social services for follow-up.
- Educates patient and family regarding various aspects and treatment modalities of disease.
- Coordinates, performs, and tracks injections according to pathways (such as IM and SQ injections).
- Administers all medications, electrolyte repletion, and hydration
- Documents care and bills for services.
- Work with a collaborative team of nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians.
- Assists with preparing advance care directives.
- Implement the plan of care and evaluate the patient’s response to interventions.
- Obtain and help process prior approvals for patient medications and imaging as appropriate.
- Work with pharmacy department to monitor and manage medications and supply inventory.
- Medication order review.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, OSHA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to come to work and work the regular shift for the position.
- Compliance with all personnel policies and procedures.
- Additional duties to be assigned from time to time.
- Obtains ONS Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card with 4 months of start date
- Maintains BLS Certification
