Position Summary:
The Participant Navigator/Group Facilitator at the Cancer Support Community-CA Central Coast (CSC-CCC) is a Master's-prepared mental health professional, Associate or Licensed Mental Health Provider. This role is central to participant navigation, support group facilitation, and the provision of direct services for individuals affected by cancer.
Key Responsibilities:
· Orientation and Intake: Serving as the initial point of contact, the Participant Navigator/Group Facilitator guides prospective participants—whether individuals, couples, children/teens, or families—through the orientation and intake process. They must efficiently manage multiple intakes, ensuring a smooth and timely process.
· Participant Connection: The Participant Navigator/Group Facilitator helps participants connect with one another, fostering an environment where they can reduce isolation and stress, regain a sense of control, and manage cancer-related challenges.
· Service Delivery: The role requires offering services through various modalities, including in-office sessions, phone consultations, and virtual meetings via secure Zoom platforms.
· Program Facilitation and Representation: The Participant Navigator/Group Facilitator may also oversee and conduct educational workshops and program classes, while representing CSC’s mission, core concepts, and philosophy to the public on both local and national levels.
Collaboration and Team Support:
· The Participant Navigator/Group Facilitator collaborates closely with the Program Director (PD), Clinical Director (CD), Executive Director (ED), and other staff members to provide comprehensive support that addresses the social and emotional needs of CSC-CCC participants.
· This role includes tasks essential to the smooth running of the office, such as general setup, cleanup, and other duties that contribute to the collaborative nature of the team.
Professional Standards and Community Engagement:
· The Participant Navigator/Group Facilitator is expected to uphold the highest professional standards, demonstrating warmth and compassion in interactions with participants, staff, volunteers, and the community.
· Keeping up to date with the latest in psychosocial oncology practices and research is essential, along with representing CSC-CCC in local opportunities to promote, educate, and support those impacted by cancer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
I. General Program Support & Intake Coordination
· Conduct new participant orientations, Intake Assessments, Distress Screenings, and/or Individual Support Plan (ISP).
· Connect participants with both internal and external cancer related resources.
· Assist PD and CD with following up/checking in with participants who went through orientation and have not attended regular programing.
· Provide other program support, on and off site, for example: representing CSC-CCC at an off-site program, such as “Surf Camp,” or table a health fair, etc.
· Associate and Licensed level professionals may be offered the opportunity to deliver direct counseling services to participants, including but not limited to: individual, couples, family, and child/teen. This may include in-person sessions, by phone, or a secure Zoom platform.
· Remain flexible and complete additional tasks or roles as the PD and/or staff deem appropriate beyond those items listed above.
II. Support Group Facilitation
· Guide group participants in sharing their cancer-related experiences, gaining knowledge and information in regularly scheduled support group meetings by utilizing the CSC support group model.

· Serve as a trained professional in group facilitation and the psychosocial aspects of cancer across the continuum (diagnosis, treatment, post-treatment, long-term survivorship, end of life), but not as an expert in cancer or cancer treatment.
· Provide telephone, mail and/or email reminders/follow-up with group members as needed and per CSC-CCC affiliate protocol.
· Submit all required attendance sheets, reports and time sheets, in a timely and accurate manner.
III. Supervision & Professional Development
· Associates participate in regular clinical supervision and staff meetings under the direction of the CD and PD.
· Masters level professionals who are not earning hours for licensure will be supervised by the PD.
· Receive an annual written performance review from the PD for non-clinical matters and the CD for clinical matters including group facilitation.
· Provide annual documentation of current licensure (when applicable) and malpractice insurance.
· Voluntarily participate in ongoing continuing education opportunities related to psychosocial oncology.
· Seek, contribute to the development of, and implement new outreach opportunities with civic organizations, health fairs, volunteer opportunities, while maintaining existing relationships in place, as requested.

IV. Minimum Qualifications
· Master’s Prepared Social Worker, Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), Master’s Prepared Marriage & Family Therapy Associate (AMFT), or Licensed Mental Health Professional.
· Associates and Licensed Mental Health Professionals are expected to maintain good standing with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the state of California.
· Willingness to learn and implement CSC psychosocial support methods, participate in ongoing clinical supervision, and the overall experience of a support community.
· Ability to administer CSC-CCC policies and procedures while maintaining a warm, professional, personal, informative, and effective program.
· Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
· Ability to work a varied and flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends.
· Commitment to working as a team member in a supportive community.
· Ability to interact with individuals at all levels (participants, medical professionals, staff, and public).
V. Preferred Qualifications
· Familiarity with navigation services including connecting individuals to resources/programs internal an organization as well as community resources.
· Ability to work with issues surrounding chronic and life-threatening illness.
· One year’s experience with support group facilitation highly desired, specific to Oncology is ideal.
· Experience working with children and teens including laws and regulations that apply to that population.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
