Job Description
Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley (CSC) is an independently incorporated affiliate of Cancer Support Community, an international non-profit organization providing professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes, and social activities for people facing cancer and their families and friends.
Primary Functions/Purpose:
The Associate Program Director (APD) is responsible for the administration, oversight and leadership of all community participant-related programs including educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes, social events, and resources and referrals for people of all ages affected by cancer in accordance with CSC national standards, policies and procedures. The APD builds and maintains relationships with members, program professionals, speakers, and key programmatic constituents in the healthcare, medical and academic arenas. The APD works closely with the CSC staff and volunteers to provide programmatic consultation as it relates to general operations, outreach & marketing, grant writing and reporting, management of program budgets, program statistics and reporting.
The APD works collaboratively with the Clinical Director (CD) and reports directly to the CD. Along with the CD, the APD sets goals, monitors work, and evaluates results to ensure that CSC’s program delivery requirements are met and are consistent with the mission and needs of the organization.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The APD supervises the Program Team, including the Program Manager, Psychosocial Navigator, and Community Engagement Manager to ensure program compliance, growth, and development.
- Oversee all non-clinical aspects of CSC’s program delivery to ensure program compliance in accordance with the CSC Program Standards as defined in the CSC Program Manual and Policies and Procedures. Programs include educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes, social events, and resources and referrals.
- Participate in the development of the strategic plan as it relates to program delivery, reach, and evaluation.
- Develop content for the program calendar including recruiting workshop leaders, calendar descriptions, and flyers in collaboration with the Program Manager.
- Monitor in-person workshop presenters to ensure quality, fair balance, and adherence to CSC policies.
- Assist speakers and members in videoconferencing platforms.
- Create and manage an annual budget for all participant-related, in-person programs.
- Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about CSC with the community.
- Attend Board of Directors meetings and Board committee meetings that pertain to program delivery and community outreach/marketing
- Interact with Board as requested by CEO.
- Along with CD, regularly evaluate member satisfaction and program effectiveness through surveys and member testimonials.
- Review measurable outcomes and adjust program delivery as needed. Facilitate at least one weekly group and provide or arrange for backup coverage when a facilitator is absent.
- Work collaboratively with Development staff for grant writing and reporting.
- Meet with Development staff to communicate funding needs; prioritize needs with CEO.
- Build, maintain and serve as a staff liaison to CSC’s Professional Advisory Network.
- Develop relationships and opportunities for partnering with other service providers.
- Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Be a “self-starter” and goal driven.
- Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
- Strong computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, databases, and videoconferencing programs (e.g. Zoom).
- Ability to understand and respond appropriately to the needs and interests of CSC members.
- Strong interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills
- Adherence to the highest ethical standards.
- Positive, can-do attitude; enthusiasm for CSC and its mission
Education and Experience:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) or Clinical Psychologist in the State of California or Master’s of Public Health
- Ability to work with issues surrounding chronic and life-threatening illness.
Work Environment:
Employees work a 4/10 work schedule (10 hours a day Monday through Thursday). Work office location is Sierra Madre, CA. Telecommuting/remote work may be available one day per work week (excluding Thursdays) subject to CEO’s discretion. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and/or weekend work during events. Valid Driver’s License required. Reliable transportation and insurance necessary.
Compensation:
The Associate Program Director is a full-time, exempt position. Starting salary $80,000 - $90,000 depending upon experience and expertise. CSC offers a competitive benefits package (health, dental, vision, and life insurance, and 401k plan), free parking, and vacation and sick leave available after completing a 90-day probationary period.
