Job Summary
The position will support the implementation of strategies to stewardship current community partnerships and the development of new partnerships to recruit new members to the organization for support services, improve access and availability of cancer education and screening services, and drive increased visibility of the agency in the community.
Additionally, the position will support three teams of community ambassadors to help build trust and educate communities on ways Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club Rochester programs can help those with cancer and their families.
Reporting to the Director of Programs and Support Services, he/she will work collaboratively throughout the organization to ensure that community engagement efforts are consistent with and supportive of Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club Rochester overall strategic plan and vision.
This position will require some weekend and evenings hours to accommodate meetings, events, and outreach activities.
Primary Duties:
· Conduct outreach activities including but not limited to community information sessions, church presentations, community/neighborhood walks and information distribution, community fairs, activities, events, and functions.
· Provide staff support to three volunteer ambassador outreach and advocacy groups.
· Identify and develop relationships with new partners though a “Points of Access” model.
· In conjunction with outreach and advocacy group leadership and the Director of Programs and Support Services, coordinate the colorectal screening kit initiative which includes distribution of kits, coordination of volunteers and follow up procedures with participants, and maintain all pertinent records and files for funding purposes.
· Prepare and distribute information and education materials, including handouts, flyers, and visual aids such as videos and posters.
· Document activities and record information, such as the numbers of people reached, presentations conducted, meetings, and people assisted with monthly goals for each. Complete required monthly program documentation and reports.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Associates degree from an accredited college or university.
· Experience in Community Engagement, Social Services, Education, Networking, Group Facilitation, etc.
· Knowledge of community engagement and resources.
· Ability to work with families and individuals as a representative of the agency.
· A track record of being an effective verbal and written communicator.
· Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel.
· Experience working with underserved populations.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required.
· Experience in non-profit sector.
· Positive outlook with a passion for helping others.
· Motivated self-starter.
· Team player who is flexible and creative
· Administrative and leadership skills.
· Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club Rochester mission and core values.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
