JOB TITLE: Oncology Counselor STATUS: Full-Time
REPORTS TO: Program Director SUPERVISES: None
PURPOSE: The full-time Cancer Support Community (CSC) Oncology Counselor will provide individual support for patients and family members impacted by cancer within CSC’s service area.
SCHEDULE: This position is full time (40 hours/week). Counseling hours will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sessions will be provided online and in-person.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Oncology Counseling: Provide assessment, short-term counseling and crisis intervention to individuals and families impacted by cancer in treatment at local cancer centers. Services provided include, but are not limited to, adjustment to illness counseling, depression and anxiety screening and recommendations, and bereavement support.
2) Outreach: Drive awareness of on-site programs including oncology counseling, support groups, healthy lifestyle classes, educational workshops, social programs, and practical assistance. Serve as a primary clinical contact for patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals.
3) Collaboration: Work with medical teams, coordinating care with physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other staff.
4) Supervision and training: Utilize clinical supervision individually and in a weekly group setting. All CSC clinicians are supervised by a licensed social worker and participate in weekly clinical reflective supervision with several experts in this field of practice, allowing for clinicians to problem solve difficult cases and collaborate on treatment plans.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Master’s degree in Social Work, counseling or related field
2) Current clinical license (LLMSW, LMSW)
3) Excellent clinical and therapeutic skills
4) Engaging and confident in working with others of varying disciplines
5) Curious and creative in approaching complex situations
6) Capable of working independently and as a member of a team
7) Proficient computer skills
8) Experience working with diverse populations
9) Proficient in one or more therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Experience working with oncology population
2) Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
