The Cancer Support Community (CSC), an international nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., is seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of people impacted by cancer for our Vice President, Helpline, Education and Outreach position. ________________________________________________________________________________

Compensation range : $122,000 - $131,000

JOB SUMMARY

The Vice President, Helpline, Education, and Outreach will oversee CSC Helpline operations, ensuring strategic alignment with CSCs mission. This role includes managing Helpline staff, driving program growth, securing funding, and collaborating with oncology navigation leaders. The VP will also lead the Education and Outreach department, including CSCs Frankly Speaking About Cancer initiatives, ensuring high-quality educational programs. Responsibilities include developing resources, managing partnerships, overseeing grant writing, and ensuring program excellence. The ideal candidate is highly organized, skilled in communication, and experienced in program and project management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Helpline Management :

  • Oversee the operation of the Helpline, ensuring it provides timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
  • Coordinate with Helpline staff to ensure high-quality service and support.
  • Develop and implement training programs for Helpline team members.
  • Track and analyze helpline metrics to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Share in coverage of on call needs, including evening coverage during hours of Helpline operation.

Education Development :

  • Design and execute educational initiatives to raise awareness on key topics relevant to the organizations mission.
  • Following plain language standards, create and update educational materials, including brochures, websites, and digital content.
  • Develop webinars, workshops, and community events to engage the public.
  • Collaborate with network and external partners to expand educational outreach.
  • Outreach Strategy :

  • Identify and build relationships with the network, community partners, stakeholders, and organizations.
  • Plan and implement outreach campaigns to educate targeted populations about the organizations resources and services.
  • Promote organizational programs and services through various media channels (social media, print, etc.).
  • Measure the effectiveness of outreach programs and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required by management

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Experience in implementing strategic goals in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and guidance
  • Strong communication skills including utilization of plain language and health literacy best practices with a proven ability to work effectively with team members and stakeholders
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with ability to evaluate and analyze situations to provide recommendations for solutions
  • Must be able to motivate a team to action and keep order amongst competing interests.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools related to individual donor programs, foundation networks, and online fundraising
  • Demonstrated team-building and leadership skills
  • Preferred : Certification in navigation or oncology social work, call center or virtual program experience, staff mentoring, data analysis, and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish or another non-English language is a plus.
  • Required : Attention to detail, multitasking, strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Creativity is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.

  • TECHNICAL SKILLS :

  • General administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and project management software (including Smartsheet).
  • EDUCATION : Masters degree in social work, public health, social and behavioral sciences, health communications / or related field.

    EXPERIENCE : Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in oncology care, education, with at least five years experience in management and progressive leadership roles.

  • Experience in cancer patient education development, a plus.
  • REQUIRED CERTIFICATES / REGISTRATIONS :

  • Candidates with a masters degree in social work are required to be licensed in good standing in the state of residence. MCHES or CHES certified, a plus, for MPH candidates
  • CITI training certificate, or completion of CITI training within 3 months of hire, required.
  • WORK LOCATION

    CSC has offices located in Washington D.C. and offers in-person, hybrid, or fully remote work for this position.
