FP&A Analyst

A Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst plays a critical role in a company by providing financial planning, analysis, and support to business unit leaders and corporate department leaders. This position involves a mix of financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning. The FP&A Analyst helps the business understand its financial performance and make informed decisions. Below is a detailed job description for an FP&A Analyst :

Title : FP&A Analyst (Business Unit or Corporate)

Reports To : FP&A Manager

Job Summary : The FP&A Analyst is responsible for providing financial analysis and support to the managers of a specific business unit or corporate department within the company. This role involves preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial reports, as well as analyzing business performance against financial goals. The analyst will work closely with business unit and corporate department leaders to help them understand the financial implications of their decisions and to identify opportunities for financial improvement.

Key Responsibilities :

Financial Planning and Analysis :

Develop and maintain financial models to support the strategic planning process.
Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators, including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses, and capital expenditures.
Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances.

Budgeting and Forecasting :

Coordinate with business unit and corporate department leaders to prepare the annual budget and periodic forecasts.

Provide detailed monthly and quarterly financial reviews and updates.

Analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision-making purposes.

Reporting :

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that compare actual results to forecasts and budgets.

Develop and maintain departmental reports and dashboards to provide critical financial and operational information to the business unit and senior management.

Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.

Strategic Support :

Support long-term business planning and new initiatives analysis.

Work with the business unit to assess the financial implications of new contracts, products, or other initiatives.

Assist with the preparation of presentations to Board of Directors and Senior Management Team.

Collaboration and Communication :

Collaborate with other finance team members to support overall department goals and objectives.

Work closely with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Liaise with business unit and corporate department leaders to gather, understand, and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Ad-hoc Analysis and Projects :

Perform ad-hoc analysis and financial modeling to support specific projects.

Identify opportunities for performance improvement across the organization.

Participate in cross-functional teams to solve business or financial problems.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.

MBA, CPA, CFA, or other relevant graduate degree or certification is a plus.

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Proficiency in financial modeling techniques and in using financial software and systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, Excel).

Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across different levels of an organization.
