Major Responsibilities
• Collaborates with pathologists and clinical/hospital service area Administrative Leadership, which may include Nursing, Infection Control, HR, Patient Safety, Quality, ED services, Outpatient Services, to ensure laboratory services effectively support the enterprise's clinical and safety initiatives.
• Aligns with corporate strategies, initiatives, process, and procedures. including acting as a liaison between hospital administration and laboratory leadership.
• Creates, plans and actively participates in projects to meet strategic initiatives including implementation and development of quantitative outcomes.
• Develops, implements, and monitors budget compliance. Analyzes laboratory fiscal needs, and departmental performance and takes action to address variances.
• Proposes Operating and Capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
• Identifies, develops, and implements performance improvement processes to optimize teammate engagement, and physician and patient satisfaction.
• Develops and directs implementation of standards and systems to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency, and timeliness in areas of responsibility. Fosters innovation to support both current and future needs.
• Ensures all operations and policies are in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements including Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act, College of American Pathologists, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies. Develops processes to ensure continual inspection readiness.
• Accountable for the accuracy of test results, efficient operations, proper staffing levels, and resource utilization., which may include quality indicators to ensure the accuracy of processes and test results, and to meet quality and service goals.
• Designs and directs the work of the assigned area(s) of responsibility. Selects, coaches, and develops teams, setting objectives that align with organizational strategy to inspire and motivate the teams. Manages organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and development. Designs and directs processes by which team and individual performance are recognized, feedback is consistently delivered, and performance is systematically improved.
• Develops and/or recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
• Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
• Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences, Medical Technology or related field.
Certification / Registration / License
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) BOC),
OR
• Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent accrediting agency.
Work Experience
Typically requires 5 years of experience in technical laboratory services and operations, including 3 years of leadership experience in management of staff, budgets, and multiple laboratory functions.

• Demonstrated leadership skills including project management, decision making, delegation, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to grow leaders through coaching, guidance, and development planning.
• Advanced knowledge of regulatory compliance, accrediting and licensing agency requirements.
• Current knowledge of medical and technical advancements to plan for future growth and development.
• Intermediate computer skills including knowledge and experience with laboratory information systems.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Exposed to normal office environment.
• Position requires travel; therefore, may be exposed to weather and road conditions.
• May be exposed to the following hazards: mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, infectious agents as well as human blood and body fluids; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
