What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sourcing Manager position at Candle-Lite?
Responsible for leading the day-to-day Luminex sourcing activities of raw materials to support Leesburg manufacturing. The individual in this position must demonstrate the following attributes and skills:
- Manufacturing process understanding to assist in design-for-manufacture
- Ensure that product is sourced based on total value, including pricing, MOQ's, lead times, etc.
- Time management skills to ensure on-time delivery in fast-paced environment
- Strong negotiation skills to help Luminex achieve best cost
- General command of subject matter and ability to share in concise terms
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Lead Luminex sourcing and assist the Dept. Director in the supplier selection process, responsible for managing/developing the business and working relationship between Luminex and the supplier.
• Contact sources and solicit bids including cost/quantity price breaks, payment terms, freight terms, quality levels, specifications, lead times, and tooling costs.
• Perform value analysis to determine the best source of supply and notify chosen suppliers of new item awards. Negotiate terms of business to achieve cost effective pricing and product delivery while meeting all Luminex quality and service standards.
• Actively monitor supplier performance and manage supplier relationships to ensure that Luminex standards for quality, service, and social compliance are always achieved.
• Educate suppliers and develop the supplier base for continual improvement in these areas.
• Work closely with Design, Product Development and Quality Assurance on the development of product specifications and the establishment of quality standards.
• Works closely with the Purchasing planning team to create purchase and supply strategies that meet Luminex sales, service, and inventory requirements.
• Anticipate and respond in a timely manner to changes in specs.
• Work as a collaborative team player with Design, Product Development, Marketing, Quality, Supply Chain to deliver products that meet all business requirements.
• Establish processes that foster communications, teamwork, and focus on common business goals.
• Maintain awareness of economic and business situations as they affect pricing, delivery, and contractual agreements.
• Actively evaluate supplier cost competitiveness and identify opportunities to reduce costs through alternative sources without compromising quality and service standards.
• Annually develop, direct, and lead a formal supplier scorecard review with our Quality and Purchasing Dept.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
• At least 5 years of diverse purchasing/importing background and experience in Manufacturing practices.
• Proficient in Excel spreadsheet work.
Language Skills
• Ability to read, analyze, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and executive staff.
Mathematical Skills
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Able to understand product cost accounting principles.
Reasoning Skills
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to analyze complex products and supply chains to determine options for improving quality and service, reducing costs, and cutting lead-times.
