REPORTS TO: Senior Editorial Services Manager
Summary:
Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA, seeks an Editorial Services Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for scheduling, trafficking, and managing titles in our trade publishing environment. The individual will work as a member of the editorial services team while collaboratively working with design, editorial, and production. They will be responsible for running regular publishing meetings for Walker and Walker Books Australia and for one-color fiction and will disseminate changes to scheduling and bibliographic information to appropriate departments in a timely fashion through regular pub meeting minutes, production planning meetings, and individual correspondence.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Acting as a key liaison between Candlewick's editorial services group and their counterparts at Walker Books UK, Walker Books Australia, and our partnership publishers
- Overseeing titles circulating through all stages before going out to the printer
- Working in conjunction with all teams across the Walker Books Group to ensure dates are met, negotiating extensions and making adjustments where necessary and conveying that information to the appropriate people
- Circulating one-color fiction and nonfiction titles, one-color titles originated by Walker Books UK and Walker Books Australia, and titles from our partnership publishers. These responsibilities include having a general awareness of their publishing lists and schedules, prompting US editors to contact the UK/AUS editorial teams for the appropriate files for Americanization, circulation of materials through copyediting and proofreading, and liaising with UK/AUS regarding requirements of our linked schedules.
- Maintaining the accuracy of all bibliographic and scheduling information for their titles through use of the company-wide data management system
- Trafficking materials through the approval process
- Preparing manuscripts for electronic editing, including text styling
- Attending regular status meetings with the Walker UK Character team and other relevant department and interdepartmental meetings as necessary
- Other tasks as needed
Required Experience and Skills:
- A highly motivated individual with a minimum of 5 years of project management experience in a publishing environment
- Candidates should possess a scrupulous attention to detail as well as outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact, the ability to maintain grace under pressure, and a cheerful approach
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to work expeditiously, both independently and collaboratively
- Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
