What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temp Editorial Assistant position at Candlewick Press?
Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA, seeks a Temporary Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor to support a Senior Editor, with additional department responsibilities.
The temp will be responsible for a variety of tasks to include the following:
- Assist with fact checking and photo research
- Facilitate circulating of materials for projects
- Manage intercompany projects and paperwork/documentation
- Correspond with authors and licensors, and send materials on behalf of the team
- Attend meetings and take notes, checking for updates just prior and apprising afterward
- Write flap and other copy
- Read and prepare reader’s reports for submissions and active projects, draft responses
- Prepare packages for mailing to authors, agents, and others
- Provide admin support, including creating and maintaining metadata
- Perform other tasks as requested
Required skills: Candidates must be extremely organized, attentive to detail, and able to multitask and prioritize. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and possess a strong interest in children’s trade publishing, a motivation to learn, exceptional English language skills (proofreading, spelling, grammar), and strong communication skills. They should be proficient in Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other common computer programs—experience with Biblio is a plus. Prior experience such as a publishing internship, and an interest in children’s books, strongly preferred. Candidates with proven relevant experience in an Editorial Assistant role a plus, although not required.
This is a full-time, hybrid temporary position for three to six months which requires being able to work from our office in Somerville.
