About the Position
As a canine early care technician, you will be an integral member of our team as you care for our canines during their journey to become highly trained assistance dogs. Our canine early care technicians are responsible for providing quality care to the dogs and puppies housed in our whelping center.
A typical day as a canine early care technician may include:
- Sanitation/ Maintenance
- Cleaning and disinfecting kennels, dog runs, and whelping center facilities daily
- Reporting maintenance problems or repairs to the manager
- Dog Feeding
- Preparing and dispensing of food to kennel dogs and puppies, including special diet feedings
- Ensuring all females receive adequate nutrition during peak lactation
- Assisting weaning of pups to solid food
- Dog Care
- Grooming, bathing, and providing nail trimming for puppies and breeders
- Assisting with whelping and delivery of all female dogs in the center
- Encouraging puppies to nurse through weaning
- Helping with medical treatment, under the recommendation of the supervisor or veterinarian
- Administration/ Inventory
- Monitoring inventory, reporting supplies needed to manager
- Completing data entry, and providing breeder information to vet clinic
- Communicating and logging all veterinary concerns
EXPECTATIONS:
To be successful in this position:
- Must Haves:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Nice to Haves:
- Prior dog handling, training and dog health care experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
- Ability to restrain active dogs weighing up to 110 lb.
- Ability to work, standing or walking on cement for extended periods of time
SCHEDULE:
- 40 hours per week - 5 days a week
- Saturday-Wednesday 9:30pm-6:30am
PAY: $18.25 per hour with an additional $2.00 shift differential. ($20.25 per hour)
The base salary range above represents the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of total compensation package for employees.
