About the Position
As a canine wellness technician, you will be an integral member of our team as you care for our canines during their journey to become highly trained assistance dogs. Our canine wellness technicians are responsible for providing quality care to the dogs and puppies housed in our kennels.
A typical day as a canine wellness technician may include:
- Cleaning and sanitizing of kennels, training areas, toys, crates, and other canine equipment
- Preparing and dispensing food, adhering to individual canine diets
- Implementing proper Canine Companions for Independence commands and leash etiquette for all dogs
- Administering approved medications and first aid orally, topically or by injection under the direction of veterinarian or supervisor
- Monitoring animal behavior for changes in condition
- Maintaining accurate records of completed tasks throughout the day
- Communicating with staff and volunteers to ensure proper canine care
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to safely lift 45 pounds and safely handle, hold and restrain active dogs weighing up to 110 pounds. Employees should seek assistance when lifting dogs or objects weighing more than 45 lbs.
- Able to remain on one’s feet, standing, walking, bending and/or stooping on cement for extended periods.
EXPECTATIONS:
To be successful in this position:
- Must Haves:
- Current driver’s license and insurability at normal risk rates
- High school graduate, GED or equivalent
- Nice to Haves:
- Prior dog handling, training and dog health care experience
SCHEDULE:
Full time: 40 hours. Shift times vary: 7am-4pm (opener) or 10am-7pm (closer). Current schedule will include Sunday and Monday. Schedule will include at least one weekend shift and some holidays. Flexible availability is preferred.
PAY: Starting at $18.25 per hour
The base salary range above represents the low and high of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of total compensation package for employees.
