PR and Marketing Coordinator
About the Position
A Supervisor Canine Wellness is responsible for supervising and training kennel staff while participating in the care and maintenance of the kennel complex to provide quality care to dogs and puppies housed in the kennels. The Supervisor Canine Wellness must possess a thorough knowledge of canine health & general dog care and kennel operations in order to effectively supervise the kennel operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed:
Managerial
- Supervise kennel staff to ensure proper staffing and coverage, maintain staff work schedules and oversee scheduling
- Anticipate staff vacancies and coordinate adjustments to maintain kennel coverage.
- Prioritize and coordinate daily, weekly and monthly duties of canine wellness technicians and ensure adherence to rules and procedures.
- Participate in interdepartmental objectives and trainings, organize and conduct regular staff meetings.
- Actively recruit, interview and hire kennel Staff and respond to inquiries from the public, volunteers and applicants.
- Oversee that kennels are maintained to agency’s standards
- Communicate effectively and efficiently interdepartmentally, with peers, employees and with management
Staff Training
- Oversee staff training in all kennel management details, including kennel cleaning and maintenance procedures, staff scheduling, and canine health maintenance and treatments that occur in a kennel environment.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure consistency in standards of kennel and dog care.
Animal Husbandry Operations
- Clean individual kennels and maintain a sanitary kennel environment.
- Provide basic and specialized care to kenneled dogs, including feeding, walking, exercising, weighing grooming and bathing.
- Administer basic treatments and medications individually, as well as assuring consistency and accuracy within the kennels.
- Prepare and dispense dog food, adjust food amounts according to dog’s needs, work in cooperation with the vet department for dogs with special dietary concerns.
- Assist in emergency first aid, wound treatment and exams.
- Transport dogs and puppies using crates and/or approved methods as needed.
- Recognize common veterinary conditions and maintain familiarity with current treatment protocols as prescribed by the National Vet Clinic.
Administrative
- Maintain written records of dogs moving into or out of kennel, individual dog care, or behavior following CCI protocols.
- Maintain good oral and written communications with co-workers, instructors and supervisor.
- Participate in meetings, educational sessions and other group forums.
- Maintain kennel protocol and procedural records.
- Assist with graduation and special events.
- Be accountable not only for direct responsibilities outlined in this job description but also to serve fellow staff and other constituents with whom position interacts. Ensure actions and communications are honest and transparent.
HAVE TO HAVES:
- Perform several tasks concurrently, time management and good organizational and communication skills.
- Must be able to safely lift 45 pounds and safely handle, hold and restrain active dogs weighing up to 110 pounds. Employees should seek assistance when lifting dogs or objects weighing more than 45 lbs.
- Able to work, standing or walking on cement for extended periods of time.
- Able to work different day and weekend shifts.
- Able to complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with dog training and behavior, animal health and disability awareness and sensitivity.
NICE TO HAVES:
- Minimum one-year prior dog handling, training and dog health care experience.
- Supervisory and management experience.
EDUCATION: College graduate or equivalent.
SCHEDULE: Full Time
PAY: $26.00-$27.50/Hour
The base salary range above represents the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of total compensation package for employees.
