What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Care Attendant (Morning) position at Canine to Five?
Our Dog Care Attendants play a vital role in maintaining the health, safety, and happiness of the dogs in our care. This position is hands-on and physically active-perfect for someone who is passionate about working with animals and committed to cleanliness and safety.
You'll be responsible for providing direct care to the dogs, keeping the facility clean and sanitized, and ensuring each pup receives the attention and services they need while staying with us.
This role is part-time in our Eastside Detroit location typically from 5:30am - 9am Tuesdays - Saturdays.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Facility Cleaning & Sanitation
Clean and sanitize kennel rooms, enclosures, walls, floors, and bedding
Maintain outdoor play yards (turf, cement, fencing, etc.) through regular cleaning and disinfecting
Fill and prepare mop buckets, trash cans, and scooping stations for daily use
Wash dirty dishes, mop floors, and dispose of waste properly
Ensure all cleaning supplies are stocked and used according to protocol
Dog Handling & Care
Move dogs safely and calmly throughout the facility (to/from lobby, yards, kennels)
Monitor dogs for signs of stress, illness, or injury, and report concerns to supervisors
Administer feeding and boarding services, including potty breaks and activity sessions
Use reservation software to check feeding instructions and update dog records
Ensure all dogs have fresh water and clean bedding at all times
Record Keeping & Communication
Accurately complete cleaning, feeding, and behavior logs as needed
Use basic computer systems to update or review dog information
Communicate clearly with team members and management about any dog-related issues
Additional Duties
Support other team members with various tasks throughout the facility
Follow all safety guidelines to ensure a clean and secure environment for pets and people
Be flexible with responsibilities as needed to meet the needs of the dogs and the team
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must be 18 years or older
Able to lift 50 lbs and stand/walk briskly for long periods (4 hours)
Comfortable bending, squatting, pushing/pulling, and moving quickly throughout the day
Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
Natural love and respect for dogs of all sizes and temperaments
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active, and pet-filled environment
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn reservation/record systems
Dependable and available for early morning shifts (starting at 5:30 AM) and weekends
