Overview
The School Maintenance and Cleaning Specialist is responsible for the appearance, safety and functionality of the Cannon River STEM School’s campus by ensuring a clean and safe environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming on a scheduled basis.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and fixtures.
- Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks, floors and stalls in all restrooms.
- Remove and empty trash and recycling.
- Respond to staff inquiries and concerns or emergency clean up in a timely manner.
- Ensures all restroom, classroom and breakroom disposable supplies are fully stocked each day.
- Ensures all classrooms, hallways, and other areas are cleaned and sanitized properly and dusted.
- Clean the cafeteria after lunches (floors, tables, chairs, restrooms).
- Maintain outer premises: Cleaning entry ways, snow removal from sidewalks and stairs, salting and sanding sidewalks, picking up litter.
- General maintenance: Hanging items, performing minor repairs to desks, chairs and other equipment.
- Facilities support: Assemble, install, deliver, or move furniture and/or equipment as necessary. Load/unload freight and supply orders.
- Inspect school playground, and other areas on campus, and identify necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions and advising the Executive Director of potential safety concerns.
- Collaborates with school leadership and staff in the coordination of school activities requiring maintenance and custodial support. o Maintains inventory of cleaning/maintenance equipment and supplies.
- Attend in service training to remain in compliance with OSHA. .
- Summer deep cleaning, including stripping and waxing of floors.

Required Education, Experience and Skills
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Ability to observe safety and security procedures and comply with policies
- Must be able to do physical work and operate power equipment and tools normally found in janitorial and maintenance operations.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism.
- Previous custodian or maintenance experience or similar.
- Understand written and verbal instructions.
- Must clear pre-employment background check.
- Normal and regular attendance.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working in a school setting.
- Knowledge of proper mixture, use, and disposal/storage of cleaners, solvents, chemicals and similar products used in custodial services or ability to be trained.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 lbs., occasionally more.
- While performing some functions, ability to withstand extreme cold temperatures or heat and other weather conditions when outdoors.
- Ability to maneuver campus grounds and buildings.
- Ability to climb, reach, lift and push throughout the day.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
Schedule:
- Afternoon shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
