The Varsity Head Coach and Wrestling Program Director is responsible for building the Varsity, JV and Middle School programs and will work to create a dynamic and sustainable feeder system at Cannon School. The Varsity Head Wrestling Coach at Cannon School is responsible, directly and by delegation to the wrestling program coaching staff, for motivating and teaching Cannon School athletes in a mission-aligned program to compete at the highest level and represent Cannon School by living out Cannon’s core values. The coach will work within the athletics department not only for the betterment of the Wrestling program, but to promote athlete participation in all sports. This position will report to the Director of Athletics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and grow a Wrestling program culture that engages student-athletes, allows them to realize their potential, and pursues excellence on and off the field
- Holds interest meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport
- Coordinate the development and promotion of the Wrestling program
- Leads and mentors coaching staff
- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities on an ongoing basis
- Partner with Cannon Athletics staff on scheduling, equipment and uniform needs
- Collaborate with Cannon faculty, staff, and administration to strengthen Cannon’s ability to deliver upon its mission both inside and outside of the Wrestling program
- Ensure core values of Cannon School are consistently presented and enforced
- Provide guidance and support to all athletes
- Organize and lead off season/summer workouts for athletes
- Establish an effective communication strategy for parents, students and other key stakeholders at the school for all matters related to the program and its athletes
- Adhere to the policies, procedures, and guiding principles of the Cannon School Athletic Handbook
- Act as the liaison with the Cougar Club for the Wrestling program
- Ensure proper techniques are being taught to minimize risk of injury
- Work in tandem with Athletic Training staff to properly handle injury prevention and treatment
- Abide by the rules of the NCISAA
Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of experience coaching Wrestling at the high school level or higher (head coaching preferred)
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree required.
