About the LA CIRCLE Program

Canopy Roots is a contracted provider with The City of Los Angeles, Mayor's Office of Community Safety (MOCS), to operate the Los Angeles CIRCLE (Crisis and Incident Response through Community-led Engagement) program. This is a 24 / 7 unarmed response program that deploys trained teams to address non-urgent and non-violent LAPD 911 calls related to unhoused individuals experiencing crisis. Program goals include disrupting the reciprocal relationship between houselessness and the criminal justice system, de-escalating and supporting stabilization to people experiencing homelessness, and promoting sustained positive outcomes for community members through compassionate and trauma-informed intervention and connection to appropriate services and resources, including case management. Canopy Roots will be operating the CIRCLE Program in the Hollywood Zone of Los Angeles.

About the role Canopy Roots is an innovative mental health organization based in Minnesota that offers culturally affirming crisis response services. As the People Operations Generalist / Administrative Coordinator, your role will be to oversee day-to-day Human Resources operations and administrative functioning of the LA CIRCLE Program. This role requires flexibility and excellent prioritization skills. The position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to use a personal vehicle The role requires some driving to run errands, and is eligible for mileage reimbursement.

Expectations for this role include setting a consistent and exemplary example of Canopy's values in action. The People Operations Generalist / Administrative Coordinator is directly supervised by the MN-based Canopy People Operations Manager. The LA CIRCLE Program Manager serves as a dotted line supervisor to this role.

Hiring Salary Range : $70,000-$85,0000; Starting salary will depend on your skills and demonstrated readiness for the role

Hours / Day : Monday-Friday, 40 hours a week. The work setting is flexible, with the ability to work remotely, but working from the office or community is required for completion of job duties and maintenance of stakeholder relationships

Essential Job Functions

Human Resources

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with Program Manager and LMHC / LCSW to understand required skills and competencies required for openings
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications
  • Supports management of electronic personnel files, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Performs routine tasks required for administration and execution of human resources functions including :

Onboarding and offboarding

  • Benefits administration, leave management, and compensation;
  • Disciplinary matters;
  • Disputes and investigations;
  • Performance management;
  • Occupational health and safety; and
  • Employment- and payroll-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors
  • Collaborates effectively with MN-based People Operations team to optimize CA-based HR operations
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices;
  • Supports HR policy development, review, and implementation to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and staff satisfaction; effectively communicates changes with team members
  • Partners with MN-based People Operations Manager and Contract Operations Manager to ensure HR-related contract compliance
  • Administrative Coordination

  • Fields phone and email inquiries to the CIRCLE Program and coordinates the scheduling of events or meetings
  • Orders, organizes, and distributes program supplies and work materials
  • Collaborates closely with Program Manager and LMHC / LCSWs to identify and address administrative needs
  • Develops and maintains administrative processes, collaborating as needed with MN-based Business Operations team to optimize CA-based administrative operations
  • Maintains office space, including light cleaning and organization
  • Makes payments and purchases items on behalf of the LA CIRCLE team
  • Other duties as determined by direct supervisor and dotted line supervisor
  • Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • At least one year of Human Resources Generalist experience.
  • At least two years of Human Resources experience.
  • Passion for and experience working with BIPOC and members of marginalized communities
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
  • A valid driver's license and ability to use personal vehicle
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workplace
