Special Education Teacher Mentor
Are you a certified teacher looking to share your knowledge and experience supporting the next generation of educational professionals?
Beyond Learning Center is currently recruiting for Special Education Teacher Mentors for the 2023-2024 school year, offering flexible per diem schedules.
Whether you select a 2, 3 or 4 day work week, you can utilize your experience and expertise to provide education services for students with developmental disabilities, with an additional emphasis on supporting and coaching novice teacher colleagues or teaching assistants in their development.
Candidates must possess NYS Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities. Retirees and others are encouraged to apply!
Candidates must possess New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities. Any grade level certification in these areas is acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write specific lesson plans that adhere to the Common Core; are chronologically and developmentally appropriate; reflect differentiated instruction techniques; incorporate technology are creative, and are aligned to appropriate state learning standards.
- Serve as a model for novice teachers in the areas of instructional design, classroom management, professional conduct and collaboration, IEP development, communication with families and related-service providers, and other areas as appropriate.
- Share the knowledge and wisdom gained from your experiences as a teacher with others in an effort to support and coach new teacher colleagues or teaching assistants.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to support multiple classrooms of children at a variety of ages and levels of need.
- Support novice teachers or teaching assistants in developing Individualized Education Program ("IEPs") in accordance with current New York State Education and Beyond Support Network practice, procedures, and policies.
- Assure that IEP mandates are fulfilled and document progress toward goals on the IEP.
- Makes appropriate academic recommendations as a result of testing, professional judgment and students' needs.
- Engages students in activities that are interesting, meaningful, differentiated, and aligned to New York State Learning Standards.
