Server

Canteen is hiring for a Server position. With tips, this position can earn between $18-$30/hour.

Title: Server

Work Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Reports to: Assistant General Manager or General Manager

Position Summary: A restaurant server takes orders, answers questions about the menu and food, sells the restaurant's food and drinks, takes payment, communicates orders with the kitchen staff, seats customers, and helps with customer service and cleaning.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities:

• Prepare room for dining by setting tables
• Help patrons select food and beverages by presenting menu; explaining the chef's specialties if applicable; answering food and beverage questions
• Stay updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items, etc.
• Submit orders to bar and kitchen by recording patrons' choices; identifying patrons' special dietary needs and special requests
• Keep kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression
• Serve food and beverage orders
• Process payments
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Protect establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcohol beverage control policies
• Provide welcoming phone greeting and following guest ordering procedures
• Convey menu information over the phone to guests and give accurate estimate of delivery time
• Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor
• Fill in for absent staff as needed
• Assist with special events as needed
• Promptly address customer service issues and refer customers to management when necessary

Job Requirements:

• Must be able to carry trays or supplies (10-30 lbs.)
• A desire to help out where needed and work as part of a team

• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to utilize restaurant POS software
• Great attitude and positive outlook
• Strong customer service
• A dedication to teamwork
• Server experience preferred but not necessary
