Position Summary:
The RCA/Med-Tech’s role includes providing hands on care, physical and emotional support to each resident while maintaining a safe and comfortable home like environment. The RCA/Med-Tech is responsible for carrying out the ADL services to residents in accordance with their service plan. Works under the direction of the Director of Wellness or designee and licensed nurses. Must be aware of and understand the needs of the elderly. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing as well as verbally. Must possess the ability to effectively interact with residents, their families, other associates, and guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Communicates with all departments, as necessary, to ensure the needs of each resident are being met.
- Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident.
- Actively participates/leads and assists residents with activities of daily living (i.e. bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating) as indicated on Resident’s Individualized Service Plan.
- Assists with incontinence management and disposes of all incontinence products properly to ensure sanitation of resident apartment and community restrooms.
- Responds to security system and resident call bells promptly.
- Completes safety checks on residents at least every 2 hours during the scheduled shift if indicated on Individualized Service Plan.
- Serves and collects food trays and assists as needed, reports refusal of meals or loss of appetite to supervisor.
- Maintains cleanliness of resident’s room by making beds, doing resident laundry and linens as assigned and needed, and completing trash removal.
- Always Practice safety measures to protect and prevent harm to any resident or staff member.
- Observes, reports and documents symptoms and conditions of residents for changes in condition such as skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary and participation in activities.
- Encourage residents to take part in community activities and escort them to activities and games.
- Assists or supervises residents who self-administer medication. Exhibits understanding of and follows medication policies and procedures.
- Passes morning, afternoon and evening medications, staying with each resident until the medication is consumed, then charts appropriately in Medication Observation Record.
- Maintains upkeep and cleanliness of medication carts and medication room, wipes down medication cart daily.
- Keeps the medication carts appropriately stocked with all necessary supplies (i.e. medication cups, spoons, water cups, gloves, hand sanitizer, tissues)
- Refills and dates water pitchers at the end of shift.
- Ensures laptop is placed to charge after assigned medication pass is completed.
- Keeps the medication carts locked when not in use.
- Responsible for completing medication cart audit daily and reordering medications as needed.
- Responsible for recording and/ or restocking of medications from pharmacy after receiving proper instructions. Responsible for locking and storing narcotics (according to company policy) until turned over to pharmacy.
- Responsible for completing end of shift narcotic count with on-coming Med-Tech.
- Maintains accurate, complete and confidential resident medication and care records, according to established procedure and reports any unusual incident or information.
- Documents any and all changes in communication log along with giving a brief report to on-coming Med-Techs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements and Experience:
- High School diploma/GED
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Previous experience working with seniors preferred.
- Current 6-hour Med-Tech certification
Language Ability:
- Ability to communicate effectively speaking the primary language of the residents.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write in required logs and routine correspondence.
Environmental Adaptability:
- Employees may be exposed to blood and/or body fluids with potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
- Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual.
- Exert 50 to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and 10 to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move residents or objects.
