The Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Assistant Director of Student Services for the upcoming school year beginning in July 2025. JOB SUMMARY
To provide leadership in the development of instructional practices and programs for school-based special education in grades PreK-12. Supervise and evaluate special education staff and provide leadership within the buildings that promote the inclusion of students with disabilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Supervise special education staff
- Oversee instructional practices and programs for school-based special education staff Develop procedures and training for increasing practices that promote the inclusion of students with disabilities within the Student Services Departments at each building
- Collaborate with building principals and other administrators regarding pre-referral and referral procedures; special education programming; and implementation of legal mandates and secondary transition procedures
- Participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Plan and facilitate professional learning
- Manage all aspects of students in out-of-district placements
- Assist in coordinating aspects of the Special Education Extended Year Programs and supervise ESY staff
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and assignment of all special education personnel.
- Assist in the development of professional development for special education and general education staff
- Collaborate with the administrative team to ensure compliance with regulation/laws and timely response to parents
- Collaborate with building administrators on student related matters including investigations
- Assist in data collection and reporting for Circuit Breaker and Tiered Focus Monitoring
- Additional duties as may be assigned
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in an appropriate field
- Massachusetts Certification as an Administrator of Special Education
- Experience supervising Special Education programs
- Experience with all levels, Prek-12
- Three (3) years administrative and supervisory experience
- Ability to work as a member of a highly functioning team
- A proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to, administrators, parents, teachers, school committee members, other school staff, human service and governmental agencies.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software
- Employment-based on successful completion of CORI and fingerprinting background
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable

SUPERVISES: Building Based Special Education/Student Services Staff
WORK YEAR: 210 days
COMPENSATION: Range: $110,000- $125,000 with competitive benefit package
