The Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Schools for the upcoming school year beginning in July 2025. Job Summary
Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent of Schools supports the day-to-day operations within the schools; serves as a contributing member of Superintendent’s Central Office and Cabinet; provides decisive, dynamic leadership and supervision of building administration and building operations, educator evaluation, program evaluation, and staff development; fosters continuous school improvement in academic content standards and assessment, teaching and learning, professional development, parent/guardian engagement, and governance and funding; ensures compliance with policies, practices and procedures; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the continued growth of principals and building leaders to increase the effectiveness of the operation, planning, development, and administration of all school-based programming.
- Provides leadership and oversight in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, in the development of effective educational programs by supporting the coordination of the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate curricular programs as initiated by staff, administration, citizens/parents, School Committee or mandated by the state or Federal government.
- Supports the implementation and development of the District’s strategic plan, mission, vision, values and District goals.
- Ensures that all components of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation are connected and consistent with the District’s vision and mission.
- Oversees enrollment, residency and student registration.
- Coordinates and supports the transportation coordinator on student facing aspects of transportation including school-based or parent/guardian questions, coordination and communication with bus/transportation company
- Coordinates and supports the Director of Food Service in all student-facing food service
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Data and Accountability to use data to assess the effectiveness of instruction and to review recommendations and concerns of building principals, coordinators, other members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and other relevant interest groups.
- Coordinates long-range curricular and budgetary planning for the elementary and secondary schools.
- Coordinates continuous study of the development and needs of the school system and reports findings to the superintendent.
- Provides leadership in the review and evaluation of instructional methods and programs and recommends such policy changes and improvements as needed.
- Leads and facilitates the District’s Professional Learning Council. Coordinates the development and scheduling of all professional learning.
- Leads, facilitates and/or supports District and school-school based meetings and professional learning communities such as Cabinet, Teaching and Learning, Educator Evaluators, etc.
- Leads the facilitation for the District’s work in equity, inclusion and belonging.
- Approves requests for attendance at professional meetings and conferences for teachers, administrative assistants, and educational support personnel.
- Approve requests for attendance at and reimbursement for courses for college/university credit to be paid for educators, administrative assistants and educational support personnel per the appropriate contract language.
- Participates in the preparation of budgets in the area of teaching and learning including curricula materials, professional learning, etc.
- Writes grant proposals and supervises the implementation of such grants which support system-wide needs and goals within assigned areas of responsibility. Also, assist, encourage, and promote such grant writing by all staff in appropriate areas.
- Provides oversight to ensure compliance with the state’s accountability system and administrative oversight for various state and federal grants related to instruction to include but not limited to Title I, Title IIA, etc.
- Responsible for mentoring and induction programming as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Working with District leadership, leads and facilitates New Educator Orientation and Substitute Orientation
- Works in conjunction with the Director of Student Services to revise and update the Student Handbook annually.
- Provides support and guidance to building school leadership in areas of teaching, learning and leading.
- Supports building Principals in the development and implementation of annual School Improvement Plans.
- Acts as the first point of contact of appeals, where appropriate
- Works with District leadership in the development of the District calendar.
- In conjunction with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and the Director of Student Services, implements an effective Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model.
- Attends Canton School Committee meetings and other appropriate committee meetings and prepares such reports as may be requested by the Superintendent.
- Serves in the absence of the Superintendent, when designated by the Superintendent, as the chief administrative officer of the schools.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in educational administration, a background in curriculum/instruction and supervision. Graduate work beyond the Master’s degree preferred
- A valid Massachusetts Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent license or proof of eligibility
- A combination of at least ten (10) years of successful experience in teaching and/or school leadership
- Experience with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) preferred
- Ability to work as a member of a highly functioning team.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills of facilitative leadership grounded in respect for all and the value of differing perspectives.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software
- Employment-based on successful completion of CORI and fingerprinting background

Compenstation Package: Salary Range: $150,000- $170,000 wih a very competitive benefit package
