What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Finisher position at Canyon Contracting?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for smoothing and finishing concrete surfaces to complete project according to specifications.
- Responsible to understand elevations and use lasers to set elevations.
- Smooth out concrete to ensure the concrete poured is level and meets elevations
- Finishing concrete to forms to desired depth and pitch to include the following: sidewalks, stairs, slab edges, hung forms (step down), and curbs and gutters.
- Responsible to finish the concrete efficiently according to specifications using all the following tools effectively, manual straightedge of various sizes, vibrating screed straightedge, bull float, highway straightedge, rake, shovel, and broom.
- Responsible to use various hand tools when finishing concrete that include hand float, edgers, jointing tools, and trowels.
- Responsible to operate walk behind trowel machine and if experienced, rider trowel machine.
- At times, must mold and construct expansion joints using joiners and edging tools.
- Produce various final finishes on concrete surfaces based of job specific requirements, using rough/fine brooms or special groove rakes.
- Ensure all Company power tools and handheld tools are clean and maintained in good working order.
- Must adhere to all Company and OSHA safety policies and standards including the use of PPE. Must wear proper PPE including safety glasses/face shield, safety gloves, and steel toed boots.
- Must perform other job related or laborer duties as needed
- Build and develop trusting relationships with current customers and seek to identify opportunities to grow our customer base and build positive relationships
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma.
- Minimum 2 years work experience as a concrete finisher
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and elevations
- Proven ability to use hand-held and power tools including power vibrators, polishers, cutting saws, and edging tools.
- Experience successfully working in a team environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. Must be able to stand, bend, climb and kneel for prolonged periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work safely in a variety of weather conditions and terrains. Position will require that employee have manual dexterity, good sense of balance and excellent hand-eye coordination. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
Salary : $28 - $35
