What are the responsibilities and job description for the Irrigation Specialist position at Canyon Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Perform the skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the district irrigation
system to ensure the grounds are safe, neat and attractive.
Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Landscape Irrigator License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read architectural and engineered drawings, specifications and diagrams
- Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations
- Ability to design, install and maintain complete lawn/landscape irrigation system
- Basic knowledge of general ground maintenance and repair procedure
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools specialized for grounds maintenance (mowers, weed eaters, concrete mixers, etc.)
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction
- Ability to work independently
Major Responsibilities and Duties - Grounds/Landscaping and Irrigation:
- Maintain and repair district irrigation system
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform work in the repair, alteration, construction, installation, replacement and preventive maintenance of irrigation supply lines, controllers, timing devices, sprinklers heads, fixtures and other related equipment.
- Water grounds and develop cost-effective irrigation scheduling
- Assist when needed with all work associated with maintenance of grounds (mowing, weed control, caring for trees, shrubs, flower beds and xeriscape areas)
- Assist with repair of fences as needed and directed
- Complete equipment repairs on work orders in a timely and efficient manner
- Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required
- Participate in district and department meetings/trainings as required
- Prompt arrival at workstation at the beginning of each working day
- Represent the school systems to the community in a positive and professional way
- Perform other duties as assigned
