What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of Behavior Intervention position at Canyon ISD?
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or psychology required
- Master’s in psychology, education, or counseling preferred
- 5 years experience in the educational field __ experience working with behavioral/emotional needs preferred
- PBIS training or willing to obtain
- Handle With Care training or willing to obtain
Responsibilities:
- Supervise behavior specialists and behavior facilitators
- Knowledge of the MTSS process, 504 and SPED law
- Knowledge of interventions and strategies for behavioral concerns in all settings: classroom, campus and district wide
- Develop and present staff development fariety of staff: administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals
- Requires flexibility with job assignments to multiple campuses based on student needs.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to work with a variety of adults and students by being a self starter, prioritize needs and complete tasks without supervision.
- Ability to interpret reports about behavior or disabilities and define interventions
- Teach classroom staff how to implement BIPs and track behavior
- Assist staff with understanding and implementing FBAs, BIPs, and behavioral IEP goals
- Formalize Behavior MTSS system and train campus interventionist to implement alongside the academic tiers
- Create and/or assist with data collection and use the data to decide on interventions
- Availability to spend time in a classroom
- Ability to work with campus staff when a crisis situation arises such as: severe behavior issues, collaboration with the teacher to develop and implement new ideas, observations, create workable plans, adjust the BIP
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with students, staff, parents
- Crisis intervention knowledge (if an LSSP, this could include immediate and quick assessment)
- Ability to remain calm in high stress situations
