Description
This twelve (12) month per year position will be on an individual contract. Salary placement will be Range 20 of the Initial salary placement will be based on education and experience. An excellent benefit package, including medical, vision, dental, life and Section 125 is offered.
This educational administrator position will be placed on Range 17 of the Administrator Salary Schedule. Step placement is based on experience. All administrators are on an employment contract and exempt from overtime and compensatory time accumulation.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Reporting to the Dean, Educational Technology, Learning Resources, and Distance Learning, this educational administrator position provides vision, leadership, planning and support for The Learning Center. This position is responsible for the development and supervision of faculty, staff, facilities, budget, policies, and procedures for these activities across all district sites and online. The Associate Dean is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating student academic support activities, programs, and initiatives across the division, encompassing The Learning Center, Library, and Online Education. This position is a member of the instructional leadership team and represents the Division and College in relevant organizations and activities. The Associate Dean directs the Division in the absence of the Dean.
Example of Duties
- Plans, organizes, and implements academic support programs and services for all students, and the goals, objectives, and program policies, procedures and work standards for The Learning Center. Facilitates communications about departmental activities, events, deadlines, and timelines.
- Serves as instructor of record for The Learning Center in accordance with Title 5 regulations. Responsible for developing an environment supportive of learning for students at all District sites and online.
- Develops and maintains an environment that promotes student safety and well-being to flourish in an academic environment by preventing and responding to perceived and actual forms of student misconduct.
- Provides administrative oversight for the Credit for Prior Learning program, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and alignment with District strategy.
- Manages, supervises, and coordinates day-to-day operations of all programs, services, and activities of The Learning Center, including marketing and outreach, exam proctoring, industry-based testing, student conduct, tutorials and special workshops, academic technology, supplies, letters of recommendation, and recognition ceremonies.
- Supervises and evaluates The Learning Center classified staff. Ensures that The Learning Center staff work collaboratively with faculty in developing intervention strategies for individual students.
- Supervises and evaluates full-time and part-time faculty assigned to The Learning Center. Develops schedules for full-time and part-time faculty assignments. Trains full-time and part-time faculty acting as instructors of record to comply with Title 5 regulations specific to the operations of a tutoring center.
- Ensures the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of college assistants and part-time employees.
- Responsible for accurate tracking and reporting of hourly student activities, at all physical sites and online, that are eligible for apportionment. Ensures that hours are provided to MIS in a timely manner to permit the College to generate apportionment.
- Provides leadership in developing and delivering student academic support activities, programs, and initiatives across the division, encompassing The Learning Center, Library, and Online Education.
- Develops and enhances academic support services tailored to Disproportionately Impacted populations, working collaboratively with the Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness (IRPIE) team and the Intercultural Center (ICC) to ensure data-informed and culturally responsive strategies.
- Safeguards academic integrity in proctoring exams. Responds at the first-level to claims of student academic dishonesty. Ensures that cases of student academic dishonesty are referred to appropriate second-level student discipline officers.
- Develops and oversees contracts with external vendors. Serves as primary point of contact with external vendors who provision third-party services such as industry-based certification exams.
- Provides leadership in collaborating with faculty and relevant departments to develop and deliver learning strategies for the retention of under-prepared, at-risk, and disabled students, as well as English-language learners.
- Develops and directs a comprehensive plan to promote The Learning Center services to faculty and students. Develops print and digital brochures and promotional materials. Delivers promotional presentations to meetings of instructional schools and departments as well as student organizations.
- Ensures all supplies and equipment for the safe and effective operation of the department and promotion of student learning are properly maintained and in good working order.
- Directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of technology services as required for all physical sites and online services of The Learning Center to function in an efficient and effective manner. Ensures that technology services support student learning and faculty teaching in classrooms, computer labs, and tutoring stations.
- Provides leadership in developing and conducting analysis and evaluation of The Learning Center and other academic support services. Collaborates with Institutional Research, Computer Support Services, and other relevant departments to ensure regular analysis and evaluation of services.
- Develops, prepares, manages, and monitors annual programmatic budgets and related grants; develops annual proposals for ongoing and one-time funding processes; directs the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; reviews and coordinates the development, preparation and administrative oversight of all departmental contracts for external services; researches the possibility for grants from outside organizations to provide additional resources to persons with disabilities. Responsible for the unit's input to the institutional accreditation process, educational and facilities master plan, and strategic planning.
- Provides leadership in the development and achievements of annual goals and objectives for The Learning Center programs by developing, reviewing, and implementing systems, standards, programs, policies and procedures to meet legal requirements and District needs; continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors the distribution of work, support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs the implementation of change.
- Directs the development of schedules for The Learning Center operations, including tutoring, workshops, classes, training, and special events. Aligns schedules of operations with student and faculty needs based on the schedule of classes. Ensures that students at all district sites, as well as online, have access to academic support services.
- Ensures compliance with Title 5 regulations regarding training and supervision of tutors. Designs, schedules, and facilitates training classes and workshops on tutoring techniques and sexual harassment as required by Title 5.
- Develops and evaluates methods to determine efficacy of tutor training in support of student learning.
- Provides leadership to the operations of testing services in The Learning Center, ensuring that the suite of exam options adhere to current and evolving industry standards
- Implements improvements in in-person and online academic support systems and processes based on evaluation findings.
- Collaborates with other departments to promote integration of academic support activities into instruction and student services. Coordinates student success initiatives and activities with Student Services and other areas as appropriate.
- Collaborates with Workforce & Economic Advancement, Personal and Professional Learning, and other departments to provide student academic support as appropriate.
- Supports the Dean with special projects and division functions, as needed.
- Seeks, develops and manages outside funding sources to support activities of The Learning Center. Seeks, promotes and provides staff development opportunities.
- Ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations. Maintains current knowledge of Title 5 and College changes, concepts, methods, requirements, regulations and policies for academic support programs; interprets, applies and explains academic support objectives, requirements and offerings to students, community organizations, students, staff, instructors, and others. Maintains a working knowledge of changing practices and legislation, regulations, and technology that may affect District or departmental operations; implements policy and procedural changes as required. Promotes understanding and awareness of programs, needs and innovative services in the field of tutoring and academic support.
- Maintains a strong and positive working relationship with Instructional Dean, academic Department Chairs, and other leadership positions within the Learning Resources Division.
- Serves on relevant campus-wide committees. Serves on advisory groups such as the College Planning Team, Management Advisory Council, Instructional Advisory Committee, and others as directed.
- Represents the District in local, regional, and statewide committees and organizations. Makes presentations at college, regional, and statewide meetings regarding program planning, innovations, and student success.
- Ensures that diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism are the foundations of all programs, services, and support for our students, staff, and faculty.
