The Santa Clarita Community College District / College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Facilities Engineer in the Facilities Services division.
Salary Placement :
Salary placement will be on Range 37 of Classified Represented Salary Schedule B.
- Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($6,411.00 / $6,811.00 / $7,205.00 per month) of this 20-step salary range.
Probationary period for new Classified employees is six months. Work year is 12 calendar months. The normal workweek for this position is 40 hours. Paid holiday, discretionary, and sick time are provided. Ten vacation days accrue during the first year of employment. A regular work schedule will be assigned, with the ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule as needed with supervisor approval.

Position Description :
Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President, Facilities and Operations, and under the work direction of the Maintenance Lead, performs a variety of skilled work in the maintenance, repair and alteration of district buildings, facilities and fixtures including carpentry and tile, painting, plastering, plumbing, heating / air conditioning and electrical trades work. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience :
Four years of experience as a master level journeyman building maintenance mechanic in one or more building maintenance trades plus two years of specialty training and / or licensed certification (minimum 120 hours). Two of the four years building maintenance requirement can be substituted with two additional years of specialty training in one or more of the following areas :
Education :
High school diploma or its equivalent supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent based on training / experience.
Licenses / Certificates :
Possession and renewal of any professional certificates, certifications or licenses required to maintain accreditation of specialty training.
Physical Characteristics :
This position requires hand and digit dexterity to operate a variety of hand and power tools; walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching in awkward positions to install and repair equipment; climbing stairs, pushing and pulling equipment; bending at the waist; working at heights of 50 feet or more on ladders, scaffolds or field poles; working under buildings or in confined spaces; moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds); working outdoors in varying temperatures; vision to read printed materials and to identify and distinguish wiring and equipment; Hearing and speech for normal communications; travel from site-to-site. In the event of an emergency, employees will be relied upon to serve as emergency service workers.
