DIRECTOR OF IDD SERVICES

General Summary : The Director of IDD Services is a member of the corporation’s senior leadership team and is a resource person for intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) services and programs as designated by Executive Leadership. The Director of IDD Services is a leader in his / her respective to May Flowers and directs the programs operation, oversees and makes recommendations regarding the development, expansion and quality of services provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Acts as a liaison between business operations leadership and the programs, and directly supervises Service Directors and / or Program Directors.
  • Develops and reviews budgets, cooperates with fiscal process on purchase approvals, and provides technical assistance with budget development and ongoing monitoring of revenue and expenses.
  • Oversees program development and program expansion.
  • Stays current on best practices and recommends areas of service expansion to executive leadership.
  • Ensures that programs and services within that are compliant with federal and state regulations and payer requirements and May Flowers standards.
  • Implements special projects and procedures, enhances the level of efficiency of the programs and continues to improve the quality of service provided to individuals.
  • Develops and updates program policies and procedures for effective operation of programs.
  • Ensures the development and provision of appropriate orientation, on the job training and training modules, and ongoing performance management for program staff in cooperation with the mentor program and employee services, and in accordance with the philosophy and mission of Living Bold.
  • Oversees and fosters talent development at all levels within May Flwoers .
  • In partnership with the Director of Quality and Compliance, develops quality assurance plans and outcomes consistent with best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures that all necessary information is reported to the Compliance Committee.
  • Attends local, regional, and state program related meetings.
  • Maintains liaison relationship with community agencies and businesses.
  • Ensures coordination of the activities of program staff with other service providers and community agencies.
  • Seeks opportunities to engage in community activities and events in order to increase May Flwoers visibility in the community.
  • Fosters internal as well as external partnerships, collaboration and communication.
  • Participates in community speaking engagements and educational training relevant to the program and services May Flwoers
  • Serves on committees, task forces, and work groups to address current social and economic problems and participates in IDD promotional activities impacting assigned program areas.
  • Interacts with constituent groups, community organizations, task forces committees, federal / state organizations and elected officials. Participates in May Flwoers government relations activities.
  • Develops and / or delivers presentations to various lay and professional groups to educate and promote awareness of mental illness and / or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Participates in May Flwoers operating committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of requirements and regulations set forth by : Department of Human Services, Office of Developmental Programs, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Department of Health, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Office of Medical Assistance Programs, Medicare, and other funding agencies.
  • Knowledge of basic supervision / management principles and practices,
  • Knowledge of collection and interpretation of program related statistics.
  • Knowledge of current health, social and economic problem and resources for individuals with mental illness and / or mental retardation / intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the goals and programs in the various fields of mental illness and / or mental retardation / intellectual and developmental disability.
  • Knowledge of the prevention, detection, or treatment of mental health and / or intellectual and developmental disability conditions.
  • Knowledge of professional and voluntary organizations for mental health and / or / intellectual and developmental disability.
  • Knowledge of the theory and principles of effective management and leadership.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices, and current developments in the field of mental illness and / or intellectual and developmental disability.
  • Knowledge of computers and Microsoft software products.
  • Knowledge and the ability to utilize good listening skills and comprehend verbal instructions given in English.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program related regulations.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical and narrative data to determine the effective function of a program.
  • Ability to problem solve, use good judgment, and make logical decisions.
  • Ability to recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective social and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representative of local state, and federal agencies, behavioral health organizations and institutions; and the general public.
  • Ability to present a confident, professional image to the community, individuals and co-workers.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
  • Ability to write legibly in English in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and express self effectively in English.
  • Minimum Education, Credentials, and Experience :

    Graduate of an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in human services, or related field, and two years supervisory or administrative experience working directly with individuals with mental illness and / or mental retardation / intellectual and developmental disability;

    Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, and at least three years supervisory or administrative experience working directly with individuals with mental illness and / or mental retardation / intellectual and developmental disability;

    A registered nursing degree with four years supervisory or administrative mental health or intellectual / developmental disability direct care experience.

    Special Requirements :

    Must be able to work flexible hours.

    Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, which may include occasional overnight stays.

    Must have the ability to obtain clearances as defined by regulation
