What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stage Door Attendant (Shubert Theatre: New Haven, CT) position at CAPA?
Primary Function
The Stage Door Attendant at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, CT attends the stage door at the theatre during load-ins, load-outs, rehearsals, and performances. The Stage Door Attendant will also work with the theatre stage manager and user groups to maintain a secure backstage as well as provide hospitality and cleaning services for events.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Unlocks and locks dressing rooms and stage door areas at the beginning and end of the call.
- Places and removes cones in the alley and loading/unloading spots at the beginning and end of the call.
- Maintains safe and easy access to the stage door and loading bay door, which occasionally requires shoveling snow.
- Greets and monitors individuals using the stage door, backstage, and dressing room areas to ensure only authorized people have access to these spaces.
- Checks bags and conducts metal-detector scans of patrons at Lobby entrances during high-security events.
- Ensures individuals entering the building are complying with venue COVID-19 guidelines.
- Contacts the Operations Supervisor when individuals need to use the lobby entrances during load-ins and load-outs.
- Answers the backstage phone line.
- Issues parking permits for vehicles loading/unloading at the stage door.
- Trains new staff as required.
- Makes coffee and tea at the start of the shift when requested by the OS and checks supply as needed.
- Fulfills requests and provides assistance to artists and crew.
- Assists caterers at the Theatre.
- Tracks supplies used by the artists (towels, water, etc.).
- Checks and reports supplies for reorder.
- Performs other job-related duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Knowledge of backstage area of the theatre as well as location of downtown area hotels, restaurants and stores.
Credentials and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent.
- Customer service experience in a service-oriented environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule on-site at the Shubert Theatre is required.
