What are the responsibilities and job description for the Disaster Mental Health Responders position at Capacity Path?
As the critical importance of mental health and community stability in disaster-impacted communities is more recognizable with each major catastrophic incident, Capacity Path has a distinct capability to provide health and wellness at the forefront of emergency response and to help build real resilience for long term recovery.
Capacity Path's Disaster Response Cadre activates when natural disasters strike. It is dynamic work that requires skilled professionals with flexibility and passion to make a positive impact in high-stress environments. Our advanced crisis care training model enhances existing skill sets and builds our well-oiled best-in-class unified care team in the trenches. We are presently seeking Licensed Mental Health Professionals, Board-Certified Coaches, Social Workers, Addiction Specialists, Pastors/Chaplains, and First Responder and Medical Peer Supporters to join our team. (We are also looking for superstar ICS Command Staff types to keep operations flowing smoothly and effectively.)
Ideal candidates will have experience working with individuals/communities in crisis. They may also have an understanding of the unique challenges first responders or disaster survivors face after natural disasters, mass shootings, or all-hazards incidents.
Responsibilities:
- Crisis Care: Provide community mental health support to empower survivors and responders in the field.
- Coaching & Empowerment: Deliver crisis care coaching protocol as designed to help clients stabilize and steady themselves.
- Communication: Serve as bridge in communication from the community to available resources.
- Collaboration: Work closely on multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, social workers, peer coaches, and administrative staff, to ensure comprehensive care for clients and communities.
- Education & Resiliency: Educate individuals, agencies, and families on techniques to stabilize their nervous systems and coping strategies.
- Stabilize Systems: Support the system-wide goal to reduce social factors impacts such as alcoholism, drug abuse, unemployment and other community wide costs that can arise after a major catastrophic event.
- Professional Standards: Understand program needs, policies, departmental process flows, and standard operating procedures. To ensure all services are executed with accuracy, efficiency, and compliant with program goals and tracking.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, and community recovery status in compliance with Capacity Path Policies and the legal and ethical standards of licensure.
- Schedule and Location: Schedules can vary widely based on each response, as well as the location service area. For this reasons, our Cadre is staffed with Independent Contractors who can be flexible with their work commitments to make themselves available for this time sensitive life saving work. Work on evenings and weekends may be required. Dependability is paramount. Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time. Travel to work onsite will be provided as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a Crisis-care professional such as Clinical Mental Health Professional, Peer Coach, Addiction Specialist, Social Worker, Licensed Massage Therapist, Public Health Administrator, Functional Medicine Practitioner, Sports Psychologist, or supporting NIMS-ICS roles.
- Individuals must be experienced professionals with the skills and passion to make a positive impact in high-stress environments.
- The ideal candidates will have experience working with individuals in crisis, be comfortable with the pace and uncertainty of crisis environments and crisis intervention.
- Must pass a Level 2 Background Check or have valid professional practice licensure (ie LCSW, LMFT, LMT, etc) and be willing to participate in our Advanced Crisis Training modules.
- Background in Military, Law Enforcement, Fire, SAR, EMS, 911/211 Operator, Medical, or Emergency Management is a plus.
- Working Knowledge of NIMS-ICS Emergency Management principles, FEMA certifications (e.g., ICS-100-800) is a plus.
