About this role
As a seasonal doctor’s assistant, you will work closely with an assigned doctor by leveraging their ability to concentrate on patient care, diagnosis, and treatment. These tasks may include communicating with other departments, patient families, and referring veterinarians, entering medical data, and providing exceptional customer service through organizational tasks that reduce wait times. This role enables you to establish a strong connection with patients and clients and to promote the human-animal-veterinary bond. You will also learn more about veterinary medicine in a practical scenario from the doctors and team members that you will be working with.
Responsibilities and Functions
- Maintaining, updating, and writing medical records
- Leveraging your assigned doctor
- Providing for clients and patients
- Promoting patient flow to minimize client wait times and increase overall efficiency
- Communicate effectively with the referring veterinarians and hospitals in the community
- Patient discharges
- Diagnostic requisitions
Schedule and Salary
- Starting salary is $20/hr
- The schedule includes days, swings/nights, weekends, and holiday rotations.
- Seasonal full time hours
Required Qualifications
- Availability for at least 8 weeks over the summer to work within our hospital
- Must be actively enrolled in a veterinary school
- Sufficient computer experience (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn various veterinary software programs
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Professional-level typing skills
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks appropriately
- Excellent clear communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Must be attentive and demonstrate a high level of respect to referring veterinarians, clients, and co-workers
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand on your feet for long periods
