The externship is designed exclusively for veterinary students in their clinical years, typically 3rd or 4th year of vet school, at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools.
We offer stipends to externs to help offset travel and lodging expenses, making this opportunity more accessible to students.

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists has two facilities, located in Buzzards Bay and Dennis, offering 24/7 care with a highly skilled support team and specialists in various fields, including Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Exotics, and Diagnostic Imaging.
We encourage externs to select one case per week to further research and engage the veterinarians in further case discussion with additional information, promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth.
What to Expect
During your externship, you can expect to actively participate in cases, furthering your development towards becoming a veterinarian. You will always be supervised by an experienced veterinarian and skilled support staff, who will serve as your mentors throughout your experience.
Our team is committed to providing a supportive environment that encourages active participation from externs, introduces them to our clients, and makes them part of our team. We believe in mentorship as a two-way street, where both externs and our team learn and grow together.
