Center Director of Early Childhood Education


POSITION SUMMARY:


Falmouth Hospital Early Ed Center:
Under the direction of the Head Start and Early Head Start Education Director, has responsibility for the daily oversight of center operations, including assurance of compliance with Head Start Performance standards, EEC Licensing regulations and standards established to ensure a high-quality program. This position also has an oversight of facility health and safety standards and works with facility staff to ensure compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Recruit, hire, train, support, schedule, supervise, evaluate & develop, staff, complying with applicable laws and regulations.

2. Ensure all documentation is forwarded to EHS/HS Education Director and/or human resources.

3. Ensure teaching staff progress towards educational requirements as mandated by the Head Start Performance Standards.

4. Arrange and facilitate regular meetings with staff and provide mandated training and updates to policies and procedures.

5. Monitor, report and provide feedback for all employee related accidents.

6. Establish and monitor regional systems and services that ensure program quality and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.

7. Submit monthly reports on direct service activities and status to the EHS/HS Education Director.

8. Monitor, evaluate and provide training of classroom volunteers.
9. Ensure program compliance with codes of all state and local licensing agencies and grant requirements.

10. Attend case management meetings, consultations, and staff meetings as necessary.

11. Observe children and provide suggestions for behavior management and education programming to meet the individual needs of all children.

12. Monitor home visiting component.

13. Monitor and manage center inventory, financial operations, annual budgets. Assist with budget development.

14. Arrange for services in all functional areas, utilizing internal and external resources to provide medical, social, mental health, educational, and special services as deemed appropriate, as well as facility maintenance.

15. Monitor and manage the maintenance and safety of facilities and availability of supplies. Request facility maintenance/repairs in a timely fashion and communicate critical needs immediately.

Identify & assure remediation of any federal, state, local non-compliances or risk management health & safety concerns found in Ongoing Monitoring and self-assessment and incorporates recommendations into planning for the improvement of the program. QUALIFICATIONS: Education:

Bachelor’s degree in child development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology, or Childcare. Meet Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) requirements as a Director II and Large Group School Age Program Administrator. CPR and First Aid certifications required.


Experience:

1. At least one-year experience in one of the following areas: early childhood education, child health, mental health, or fields of disabilities services.

2. At least one-year experience as a preschool or infant/toddler teacher or supervisor.

3. Two years’ related experience preferred as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs.

4. Two years demonstrated experience in budget management, staff supervision, and training and program development.

5. Prefer experience with Head Start.

6. Experience with connecting to community resources and parent involvement in early ed programs.

7. Experience with early education licensing standards as well as standards of other regulatory bodies preferred.

8. Experience with Developmentally Appropriate Practice, cultural diversity, and inclusion.

9. Experience working in Bilingual settings (Spanish/English) preferred.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Must have the capability to engage in the physical activities’ incidental to the job, including without limitation, the capability to: Regularly stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. Frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell. Lift and move children. Lift and move equipment and furniture as necessary to facilitate the execution of classroom activities. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus including ability to supervise and monitor children both by sight and sound always. Remain alert during naptime supervision. Respond to children in the case of an emergency to ensure safety, such as the capability to react quickly and chase after a child if he or she runs toward danger or tries to leave the classroom. Most days, employees will be working a portion of the day outside in temperatures ranging from 15 degrees Fahrenheit (with wind chill) up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Attend to the needs of children with disabilities, including physically challenged children.
