DEFINITION :

To manage technical production operations for local and traveling crews, and enforcement of safety protocols and logistical procedures for the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College. This position directly oversees all technical audio needs for the Center.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED :

  • Receives direct supervision from the Senior Managing Director of the Wilson Center.
  • Receives direction and guidance from Production Managers as needed.
  • Exercises event-based supervision over part-time technical crew members, temporary staff, and student employees.

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS :

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Works with internal and external clients to advance and execute the needed technical requirements for assigned productions, including but not limited to : staff oversight; obtaining, installing and striking necessary equipment; designing / hanging and focusing lighting instruments; sound design / implementation; stage management; equipment care and maintenance; safety protocols and procedures.
  • Serves, as assigned, as on-site crew chief in the use and operation of the Wilson Center technical spaces, with a specific focus on concert and comedy performances.
  • Serves as backstage contact for front-of-house management in both the advance and execution phases of assigned performances.
  • Maintains all audio equipment within industry safety standards, as well as best practices.
  • Provides administration with estimates for potential concerts and comedy, as well as determines and ensures technical compliance with performance riders and contracts.
  • Provides budgetary data for the financial settlement of technical aspects of performances, as assigned.
  • Supports other Production Managers in advising on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment and staff required for the individual show, and supports implementations of approved technical designs in area of assignment.
  • Monitors the condition of all sound equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventative maintenance on equipment; communicates budgetary needs for upkeep of equipment and major upgrade initiatives.
  • Orients external productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the company and others engaged by or utilizing the facility.
  • Works closely with all other departments of the Wilson Center to ensure consistent brand guidelines and operations.

  • Participate in safety training, e.g. fire extinguishers, CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for :

  • EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES :

    A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :

    Minimum Experience :

  • Three years of experience in technical operations at performance venues; specifically audio.
  • Minimum Education / Training :

  • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited College or University.
  • Preferred Education / Training, Experience, Skills :

  • Experience with lighting, rigging, stage management or staff supervision.
