Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Radiation Oncology Job Family Allied Health Work Shift Days (United States of America) Summary Major responsibility includes accurate administration of ionizing radiation to a prescribed area according to the prescribed dose. Educates and informs patients and their families in all aspects of their radiation treatments and refers them to RN, PA, RD, or MD as indicated. Accurately maintains daily treatment schedule for each patient in assigned area. Verifies the accuracy of daily treatment delivery, and charge capture in the Oncology EMR system.Clinical Education. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and clinical oncology required. Must understand radiation physics, radiation safety, and basic dosimetry theories. Must demonstrate safe and proper operation of linear accelerators and simulator equipment. Must be able to follow complex written and verbal instructions setting up patients for radiation therapy treatments. Must be able to work with little supervision and efficiently maintain daily appointment schedule. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients from various socio/economic backgrounds and coping abilities, physicians, nurses, and other staff members. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and understand the range of treatment needed for all age groups.Much of the time is spent standing or walking. Significant bending and lifting required. High visual acuity needed to assess portal images, review documentation, computer work, block fabrication and adjustment. Must have good audio perception to hear verbal orders as well as able to monitor patient audibly as well as visually during treatments. Must be able to read and comprehend technical information. Must work with equipment that produces radiation and or radioactive materials. Must be able to work primarily with adult cancer patients, HIV patients, and the terminally ill patient, and possible contact with infectious blood or body fluids. Must be able to work under stressful situations.
