Summary
This position requires the individual to perform patient care and transportation duties. In concert with state certification and local medical control, the incumbent will contribute to a busy metropolitan “advanced life support” ambulance service providing emergency, non-emergency, convalescent, and long distance service. The individual is required to obtain and accurately record all available billing information, including signatures, and to thoroughly and accurately document physical findings and treatment rendered on a patient care record. Workload for the position is considered demanding and the service sets specific performance requirements which must be met. The position may work under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor.

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) as sponsored by American Heart Association – requirement may be completed or renewed as a component of Cape Fear Valley Health New Employee Orientation Completion of NIMS 100, 200, & 700. All certifications must be maintained continuously while employed. Must possess and maintain a current driver’s license. One (1) year of field EMS/Rescue or related work experience. Thorough working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous material incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used. Thorough working knowledge of locations in Cumberland County and the cities and locations contained therein, including but not limited to the major streets and landmarks, and of rest homes, convalescence care centers, and nursing homes. This knowledge should be obtained within six months of employment. Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established rules, procedures, and protocols. Ability to deal with patients, their families and others in a courteous, compassionate, professional manner under the most adverse circumstances, and an ability to maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and other emergency and health care personnel. Must have the ability to drive all types of ambulance vehicles and a thorough knowledge of safe driving procedures used in the response of emergency vehicles. Must have the ability to lift and move a minimum of one hundred pounds (100 lbs.) on a regular basis with the added strength to lift upwards of 150 lbs. This strength being required when the situation requires moving a patient from a bed to the floor, chair to the floor, or from a stretcher to a bed. One must be knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs of the patients typically served.Hearing, speaking and visual acuity are required. Must possess the ability to operate an emergency vehicle emergency and non-emergency traffic. Must possess the ability to move around numerous physical locations, some within confined areas. Must possess the ability to lift heavy objects, up to 150 pounds, with assistance and to assume awkward positions in emergency situations.
