Summary
Under the direction of the manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day technical operations of the applicable laboratory section, in accordance with the established hospital and department policies and standards. Plays a lead role in the strategic planning process and the implementation of initiatives focused on enhanced performance, workflow redesign, and developing a culture that emphasizes excellence in the quality and delivery of laboratory services.Minimum of two (2) years of Laboratory experience in high complexity testing. Preferred 5 years of laboratory experience with at least one-year supervisory experience. Possess supervisory skills for accepting responsibility, making decisions, directing, and supervising personnel within the section. Responsible for the supervision of staff who perform testing in the laboratory. Administratively supervises all sections of the laboratory for weekends on a rotational basis. Participates in management activities designed to meet the established goals of the hospital. Possess exceptional communication and motivational skills to maintain a positive work environment and encourage growth within the department. Possess sufficient knowledge to investigate and evaluate new methodologies for presentation to management for approval. Promote and maintain compatible working relationships among personnel within the section. Work closely with physicians and staff. Ability to operate equipment at sitting or standing levels. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts under stress. Effective communication skills to include listening, writing, talking, and reading. Ability to communicate via telephone, LIS, email, and verbally. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Ability to organize and plan work. Provides direct supervision of the staff. Knowledge of regulatory requirements including safety, CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, North Carolina State and federal guidelines. Knowledgeable of Erickson's Developmental model relative to adolescents and all adult age groups to assess qualification and performance of staff and oversee orientation and training of staff who interact with patients in these age groups. Indicate the mental and emotional activities required of this job during a normal shift. Communicates clearly, effectively, and intelligently. Handles multiple priorities. Independent decision making and able to make decisions under pressure. Manages stress, anger, fear, and hostility. Works alone and with others effectively. Works in close proximity to others or in a distracting environment.Capable of moderate amounts of walking, standing, sitting, and lifting. Good physical health, visual acuity, and above average manual dexterity. Subject to viral and bacterial infections, exposed to blood borne pathogens. Occasional exposure to toxic substances.
