EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
BS/BA degree in Emergency Services is required. Master’s degree is preferred. Current North Carolina certification as a Paramedic. Successful completion of National Incident Management System 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses. Nationally recognized specialty certification by IBSC desired. EMS or Healthcare management professional development certificate or fellowship preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) progressively responsible professional supervisory/management experience in healthcare system. Requires a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
The ability to organize and administer operating and capital budget, and appropriate prehospital services. Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the general public, medical community, volunteers and governmental agencies. Possess the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Must possess thorough knowledge of current principles, practices, and state regulations applicable to emergency and non-emergency medical services management, methods, techniques and innovation for effective service delivery and related areas of EMS,. Knowledge of statistical analysis and reporting methods and ability to evaluate service performance and operating standards and to develop and maintain computerized data base management system. Knowledge of age specific physiological, psychosocial, development, and spiritual needs of the patients typically served.

Summary
As EMS Director the incumbent sets strategic vision and operational strategies that support a hospital operated Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providing Primary 911 response, community paramedic services, and special teams assignments in Cumberland County NC. Overseeing the daily operations, and administration of the local EMS System Plan the Director plans, develops, implements, supervises, and continually evaluates all functions related to the delivery of prehospital care. The work involves determining and evaluating related organizational goals and objectives, budgeting of supply and manpower needs, as well as facility and equipment requirements. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, designated accreditation agencies, JCAHO standards, medical protocols, and department and health system operating guidelines, procedures, and polices. Functions in assigned tactical role as needed.
