Job Description
Purpose:
Cape Leisure Silver Springs provides visitor services at Silver Springs State Park under a concession agreement with Florida State Parks. These services include the World Famous Glass Bottom Boat Tours, paddling rentals, food, retail, catering and special events. You'll manage all activities related to Cape Leisure Silver Spring’s concession retail/ gift shop operations. This includes managing the day-to-day activities of three in-park retail outlets; the Silver Springs Gift Shop, Exit Retail Kiosk and the River Supply outlet. Position responsibilities includes retail staff oversight, product selection and buying, pricing policy, inventory and merchandising.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Manage the three retail shops, as set forward in Cape Leisure’s concession agreement and Cape Leisure’s annual operating plan for the retail operation.
· Negotiate pricing and terms, and purchase all product intended for resale at Silver Springs State Park. This includes souvenirs, gifts, apparel, jewelry, toys and plush, books, outdoor supplies, drinks and pre-packaged snacks. Work closely with Cape Leisure’s existing retail vendors and through attendance at retail trade shows, find new vendors and retail lines.
· For custom merchandise such as t-shirts and mugs, work closely with vendors through the creative process to ensure accurate representation of the park, its features and wildlife. Solicit approvals from management as necessary, prior to production.
· Create purchase orders and ensure product is received properly into Cape Leisure’s point-of-sale inventory system. Initiate timely reorders to maintain adequate inventories of merchandise.
· Create periodic merchandising plans for each store, with the goals of attracting guests and maximizing sales. Train retail staff on the consistent presentation of stores as well as operational procedures.
· Oversee annual physical merchandise inventories at each outlet.
· Meet annual revenue and profit goals for each park retail outlet. Monitor sales performance utilizing point-of-sale reports and Cape Leisure monthly financial statements. Make and implement recommendations based on financial performance.
· Oversee retail and ticketing staff, including scheduling, hiring/firing. Routinely serve as manager on duty for park opens and closes and other duties as customarily performed by operational managers at Silver Springs.
· Provide strategic leadership for Cape Leisure Silver Springs’ retail operations, staying abreast of retail/gift industry trends, striving for innovation and continual improvement.
· Adhere to all Cape Leisure policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to merchandising, pricing, employee and guest safety, environmental and financial controls.
· Ensure that company and government assets, including equipment, money and inventories, are properly protected.
· Maintain a good knowledge of the park and current events.
· Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
· Minimum five years in the retail industry, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
· Basic accounting skills
· Proficiency with electronic point of sales systems.
· Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency with general office computer software such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to move, stand, stoop and bend for an entire 8 hour shift. Tasks require consistent use of both arms and legs.
· Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and carry for short distances.
· Must be willing to tolerate working outdoors and in warm interior environments.
· Must be able to visually inspect condition of facilities.
